About the Item

This pair of 'Amanta' lounge chairs (or settee if placed and connected together) by Mario Bellini for C&B Italia is special and unique because it is from the original years of production between 1966 and 1972 prior to B&B's production years. This example is ideal for a collector client. It is rare to find an original production set from the original C&B years of production especially with original fabric. The hardware to connect the two pieces are present and can be used to make a single settee / loveseat. Or can be used separately as lounge chairs. See photos. C&B Italia was the original company formed in 1966 by Cesare Cassina (of the company Cassina) and Piero Ambrogio Busnelli. In 1973 Cassina left and C&B became B&B Italia owned and operated by the Busnelli family still to this day. The 'Amanta' system was designed in 1966 by Mario Bellini in the same year C&B was formed. This pair of lounge chairs were from the original production years from 1966 to 1972. Signed on the fiberglass frames underneath and under the seat cushions with original C&B labels and embossing (seen in photos) along with AI (Atelier International) distributor labels. The innovative Fiberlite frames are lightweight and strong. The fabric appears to be a golden ochre or mustard velvet; a warm, muted yellow with earthy brown undertones. It's not a bright mustard, more of a vintage honey or wheat-gold shade that pairs well with mid-century or 1970s palettes. As for the material, it looks like a cotton velvet. It has a soft, matte pile with a plush hand and natural wear patterns, including slight crushing and some nap directionality — characteristics often seen in cotton velvet blends from the mid-century era. This Mario Bellini 'Amanta' sectional sofa system would work great in a Post-Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as a two seat sofa, a settee, pair of lounge chairs, bedside chairs, fireside chairs, dressing or changing room chairs, hallway chairs, entryway or mudroom chairs, nursing or reading chairs, guest chairs, lobby chairs, lounge chairs or occasional chairs ideal in virtually any setting. MEASUREMENTS: H 27" x W 30.5" x D 32" Seat Height: 17.5" Seat Depth: 22.5" CONDITION: Fiberglass frames and fabric are in good vintage condition with light age, wear and patina throughout. Mario Bellini for Cassina 'Cab 414' Leather Lounge Chair, Signed, circa 1980s
By Cassina, Mario Bellini
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A beautiful black leather Mario Bellini Cab lounge chair, Model #414, signed Cassina, designed in the 1970s. These fine examples of the cab line by Mario Bellini for Cassina are classic staples for luxury interior designers and collectors alike, these lounge variations of the design are larger and deeper than the similar dining armchair, and have the addition of the seat cushion. Signed underneath with Cassina embossing to the leather. Mario Bellini described the 1970s bestselling design for the Cab collection as “This was a new kind of chair, constructed totally out of leather, much cloned since then.” and is now a signature piece in Cassina’s Contemporanei collection. Cab was the first-ever chair to feature a free-standing leather structure, inspired by how our skin fits over our skeleton. The upholstery consists of sixteen pieces of saddle leather. They then undergo fourteen discrete procedures, again by hand. The pieces are sewn together only when their outer edges have been trimmed to ensure a perfect fit. Once assembled, the cover is attached to the chair’s steel skeleton and held in place by means of a zipper fastening as in a bespoke tailored...

Monumental Pair of Fiberglass 'Jennifer' Lounge Chairs by Michael Taylor, 1970s
By Michael Taylor
Located in Los Angeles, CA
So many incredible aspects to this pair of monumentally sized 'Jennifer' lounge chairs by Michael Taylor, circa 1970s, we will attempt to list them all in this description. First, and most noticeably, is the size. They are huge, humungous, monumental, enormous... I mean, they are incredibly large. You can easily fit two people and a dog in a single chair and have room to cuddle, snuggle, hang-out, watch a movie, have drinks in an intimate setting, or even fall asleep comfortably cradled. It's not just how wide they are but also the depth also provides a dramatic increase in overall 'lounging' footprint of the chairs. These chairs are so large, they shouldn't even be called chairs, they are somewhere between a loveseat and a daybed - perhaps they should be called lovebeds instead? The second thing that we absolutely love about these chairs is its design history. The Jennifer chair is one of Michael's earliest designs. Michael designed it for actress Jennifer Jones (Mrs. Norton Simon), she asked him for a chair that she could curl her legs in and relax and this monumental chair...
