About the Item

An Italian Rococo period lacca povera tall secretary from the 18th century, with bonnet top, mirrored-doors and slant-front desk over drawers. This exquisite 18th century Italian Rococo piece features an eye-catching molded bonnet top, sitting above two-elegant mirrored doors. This upper cabinet rests on a slant-front desk leading our eye to the three serpentine drawers below. The entire structure is adorned with a delicate lacca povera décor, depicting scenes from the antiquity accented with floral and bird motifs, while delicate scrolls highlight various sections of the piece. The drawers are decorated with scrolling cartouches that surround the Rococo hardware on the sides and the floral motifs in the centre. Lacca povera refers to a technique that uses a decoupage of paper prints glued to the prepared surface, and varnished eight to ten times over. This technique allowed the artist to provide this Rococo piece with an abundance of decorative motifs, that are yet not overdone. The result is a striking Italian, 18th century Rococo secretary whose curvy lines, combined to an exquisite lacca povera décor, will be a definite focal point in any room, whether placed in an office or living room.
