French 19th Century Napoleon III Period Ebony, Brass and Ormolu Boulle Vitrine

About the Item

A stunning and large scale French 19th century Napoleon III period ebony, brass and ormolu Boulle vitrine. The cabinet is raised by six elegant topie shaped legs with ormolu feet and top caps. The bottom apron displays Fine brass inlaid fillets and a richly chased central floral and foliate ormolu mount. Above a Fine foliate ormolu band are two doors each retaining their original hand blown glass as each side which display a striking curved shape. The glass doors and sides are decorated with rich ormolu bands and elegant detailed rosettes. The two doors open to display a rosewood back and four adjustable interior shelves. The top displays a tied berried laurel band, four recessed panels with striking ormolu bands and brass inlaid fillets all centered by a finely chased ormolu mask of Mercury below an egg and dart ormolu band.
