About the Item

Willy Rizzo Sequoia Burl and Black Lacquer Display Cabinet with Glass Doors, 1970s Elegant, bold, and timeless—this rare Sequoia Burl Display Cabinet, designed by Willy Rizzo for Mario Sabot in the 1970s, embodies Rizzo’s signature balance between rationalist precision and sophisticated glamour. A celebrated figure of European design, Rizzo furnished the homes of actors, directors, and international aristocracy, and this piece reflects the same refined theatricality that made him iconic. The cabinet is exquisitely crafted in vibrant sequoia burl wood, with mesmerizing grain patterns forming a warm, hypnotic composition. Its architectural structure is outlined with satin brass profiles and high-gloss black lacquered side panels, creating a bold contrast that enhances the luminous depth of the burl. Two full-height glass doors, framed in gilt trim, open to reveal two suspended beveled glass shelves—ideal for displaying fine collectibles, decorative objects, or treasured volumes. The clear shelves emphasize the cabinet’s vertical proportions while combining elegance with functionality. Below, four concealed drawers clad in burl veneer provide discreet storage. Crafted with precision, seamless joints, polished chrome corner details, and perfectly aligned drawer fronts, they highlight Rizzo’s meticulous attention to detail. The cabinet is preserved in very good vintage condition with only minor traces of use consistent with age. The lacquer retains its deep gloss, the brass trim is intact and untarnished, the glass panels are clear and free of cracks, and the burl veneer remains vivid and richly figured. These subtle signs of age do not detract from its visual impact or usability. Willy Rizzo (1928–2013)—renowned photographer and designer—was a key voice of 1970s European glamour. His interiors and furniture, adored by Brigitte Bardot, Salvador Dalí, and Luchino Visconti, are now highly collectible worldwide. Dimensions: Width: 132.5 cm (52.2 in) Depth: 52.5 cm (20.5 in) Height: 190 cm (74.8 in) A versatile and refined display cabinet, this piece stands as a quintessential example of Willy Rizzo’s timeless design.
