Late 19th Century Tole Decorated Tray on Later Ebonized and Gilded Stand

About the Item

The tole tray painted in America, circa 1850 is sweet and charming showing sprays of Daisies amidst vining flowers and leaves. Painted in warm yellows and whites on a black ground the greens of the leaves and fresh flowers pop off the shiny black. The tray has a new French polish. The later stand custom-made for this tray is also painted a shinny black with the faux bamboo turnings gilded at the segmented areas. The corners of the Stand are rounded as is the tray with gilded borders set within, the ends and sides are split faux bamboo sections of equal size and the legs are graduated turnings. The flowers are painted in a lively and realistic manner and the tray is further decorated with a meandering border of flowers and vines in gilding and colors along the edge of the dished section of the tray and then again on the broad flat area of the tray's edge. The stand in a Regency form is also decorated in similar colors and with gold. The tray has a label from the 1840s affixed to the reverse that says it was restored and most likely at that time the stand was fashioned and painted to accompany the tray. The stand folds and can be easily moved to make it a perfect movable coffee table...
