About the Item

The iconic Guanabara Table, designed in the late 1950s by Jorge Zalszupin (1922-2020) and crafted by his L' Atelier is a rare and exceptional example of mid-century modern Brazilian design. This particular piece features a sleek, continuous rosewood veneer top ( jacarandá ), showcasing the uninterrupted beauty and natural grain of the wood. The table is supported by a single concrete base, elegantly wrapped in black hand-stitched leather, with iron structure that ensure its robust and enhance modernist aesthetic. This piece has been carefully restored, with the original jacarandá veneer fully preserved. The surface was gently polished to refresh its finish, replacing the old varnish while maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original material. The iron and leather elements remain in their original, vintage condition, further highlighting the character and history of this unique design. Originally created for versatile use in corporate spaces (as a meeting table) and residential settings (as a dining table for 8 - 10 places), this timeless piece remains a benchmark of adaptability and sophisticated craftsmanship. Notably, this particular table was originally used in a corporate meeting room, underscoring its timeless versatility and its role as a centerpiece in professional settings.

Hauner & Eisler - Moveis Artesanal - Rare Pair of 1950s nest table in rosewood
By Carlo Hauner, Martin Eisler
Located in São Paulo, SP
This set of nesting tables, designed by Martin Eisler and Carlo Hauner for Móveis Artesanal in the mid-1950s, is a rare and iconic example of modern Brazilian design. Made from solid rosewood, the tables stand out for their light forms and sophisticated use of materials. The thin, tapered legs add elegance, while the white Formica tops create a striking contrast with the warm tone of the wood. Móveis Artesanal was a company that preceded Forma, where the design duo became more widely recognized. The functional and versatile design of the nesting tables reflects the designers’ ability to combine aesthetics with practicality, allowing the tables to be used separately or grouped together. This set is a classic example of Brazilian modernist furniture...
