He is regarded as the quiet, thoughtful painter in the turbulent artists' quarter of Montmarte in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century. In fact, he was the pioneering artist of the French avant-garde.
In the period before the First World War, the young Georges Braque (1882-1963) and his friend Pablo Picasso spent eight years shaping what was perhaps the most revolutionary stage in the history of modern painting: Cubism, which represented a new way of depicting the world.
1882
Born in Argenteuil and grew up in Le Havre (Normandy), trained as a decorative painter.
1897 - 1899
Studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre.
1900
Moves to and studies in Paris. First encounter with Henri Matisse and the Fauvists.
From 1908
the landscapes in Braque's paintings take on geometric forms for the first time. In the following years, Braque and Picasso developed Analytical Cubism, the Papiers Collés and Synthetic Cubism.
1914
In August, Braque is called up for military service, ending the exchange between the two mentally very different artists.
1963
Braque dies and receives a state funeral.

Georges Braque
Georges Braque was born in Argenteuil, France, in 1882. Braque lived much of his childhood and young adult life in Le Havre. He attended night classes at the art school from 1897–99 and then moved to Paris, where he obtained his license as a master decorator. From 1905–06, after studying at École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and having been influenced by the works of Henri Matisse, he began to paint in the way of Fauvism by using bright colors and taking advantage of the freedom of the composition. Paysage à L'Estaque (1906) was one of the prominent works of art made at this time.
The year 1907 was a significant time in Braque's development, wherein he visited the retrospective on Paul Cézanne and he came into contact with Picasso, who was very engrossed in the realization of Les Demoiselles d'Avignon at the time. At this point, Braque began nurturing a considerable interest in primitive art. After the First World War, Braque worked autonomously and developed a more personal style, which was characterized by vivid colors and textured surfaces. Braque painted still life, interior views, and ocean scenes. The Ateliers (1948–55) and Birds (1955–63) series were painted during this period. In 1948, he obtained his first award for painting at the XXIV Biennial in Venice.

Georg Karl Pfahler is considered the only important representative of the Hard Edge in Germany; he was a guest at the Biennales in Venice and São Paolo, taught in Nuremberg and Salzburg and was awarded numerous prizes.
Georg Karl Pfahler was born on October 8, 1926 in Emetzheim, Bavaria. He spent his childhood and youth on his parents' farm, far away from any art. Nevertheless, he loved painting and drawing from an early age and cultivated it intensively as a childhood pastime. However, Georg Karl Pfahler only received the impetus to study art in 1948 when he met students from the Nuremberg Art Academy and accepted their invitation. His parents, good but simple country folk, had no interest in their son's newly awakened passion, and the young man was also met with incomprehension in his home village. However, Georg Karl Pfahler did not let this put him off, but attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg for two years, where he came into contact with original art for the first time and became acquainted with the works of Marc Chagall and Paul Klee.
