La Casa Degli Efebi Ceramic Tiles by Giò Ponti

About the Item

Rare 1980s Ceramic Tile Set – La Casa degli Efebi by Giò Ponti for Ceramica Bardelli, Italy Originally Designed in 1923 for Richard Ginori Offered here is a stunning and complete set of eight ceramic tiles—each measuring 20 x 20 cm (7.87 x 7.87 inches)—featuring the iconic La Casa degli Efebi design by Giò Ponti, one of Italy’s most celebrated 20th-century architects and designers. This elegant re-edition was produced in the 1980s by Ceramica Bardelli, renowned for its high-quality collaborations with influential artists and designers. The composition presents a timeless Mediterranean vision: stylized classical figures in motion, rendered with Ponti’s unmistakable graphic clarity and poetic sense of proportion. Originally created in 1923 for the legendary Richard Ginori manufactory, this design exemplifies Ponti’s early fusion of fine art and decorative objects—an ethos that would define his entire career. This particular set is in mint condition, with one discreet exception: the bottom-left tile has been professionally restored. The restoration is virtually invisible when viewed head-on and becomes only faintly perceptible when seen from an oblique angle. The overall visual impact remains uncompromised—crisp, vibrant, and museum-worthy. About Giò Ponti: A towering figure in modern design, Giò Ponti (1891–1979) was an architect, industrial designer, and editor whose influence helped shape postwar Italian aesthetics. From the Pirelli Tower in Milan to interiors, furniture, and ceramics, Ponti’s work exudes a lightness and inventiveness that continues to inspire. His long collaboration with Richard Ginori revolutionized decorative ceramics, blending modernism with classical themes. Whether used as a wall installation, displayed in a frame, or integrated into a bespoke architectural project, this set is a rare opportunity to acquire an authentic piece of Ponti’s enduring legacy.
