19thc Verre Eglomise Large Silhouette Family Portrait w/ Detailed Background
About the Item
This unique and very well executed portrait of a mid 19th century couple done in silhouettes is adhered to glass as in Verre Eglomise with a very charming drawing of a parlor in the background.
Details to note: the handsome gentleman sits relaxed in his Sheraton style chair, carries an umbrella and top hat, with a cup of tea is waiting by his side. The lady wears a lace bonnet and shoulder mantle and carries a draw string reticule. The background features three portraits and three small silhouettes, a small clock, fireplace accoutrements, a very detailed Oriental rug, and a shawl draped over the sofa, The striped wall paper is colored in a pale blue. It is unsigned but one of the best silhouette portraits we have ever had.
The frame is original and has a bit of wear to the back. Site line of this large sized portrait measures 13.5 inches wide x 9.5 inches tall.
