17th Century Italian Painting with Angel Wing Frame and 17th Century Arm

About the Item

Titled "Vulnerabilita" by Jean O'Reilly Barlow A 17th century Italian painting with a hand-carved 17th century arm. It is framed with 17th and 18th century Italian angel wings and adorned with rare minerals and an agate heart. For this piece, it gives a visual of vulnerability. The arm is reaching out of the painting with a heart in hand and a man turned away. However, there are angels surrounding the painting, pointing to the idea that fear of rejection can inhabit vulnerability but it takes courage and strength to see the beauty of an open heart that leads to hope and love. This piece is being exhibited with Museo Casa di Dante in Florence, Italy for an exhibition titled "Il Coraggio e la Paura" The exhibition is hosted by the Society of Fine Arts - Artists' Circle “Dante's House.” In English the title translates to “Courage and Fear.” The collection is presented at Museo Casa di Dante, a museum that honors the history and life of Dante Alighieri. It was formerly the famous Italian poet’s home and is now committed to sharing Dante’s literary work and important works of art. The piece is put together by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she created the piece and the period shows that the Italian painting and hand-carved ecclesiastical fragments are originally 17th and 18th century. The Italian painting is conserved and transformed into a figurative, contemporary work of art. With the combination of organic elements and historic angel wings, the artifacts become a sculptural work of historic and organic significance.
