About the Item

This splendid oil painting on canvas, in Neo-Renaissance style, depicts a young Florentine man from the Renaissance period. Its workmanship closely resembles the works of Franciabigio (Francesco di Cristofano), a well-known Renaissance painter. The subject is portrayed while he is dedicating himself to the art of writing, wearing typical 16th century Florentine clothing, including a hat, toga and choker. His serene gaze, cared for in every detail, highlights the artist's mastery. In the foreground we see a writing desk, on which we can glimpse a book, sheets of paper with annotations, and inkwell, while the young man holds a pen in his hands ready to write. An element of particular note is also the hexagonal ring he is wearing, whose stone reflects a sense of elegance and lineage. Finally, in the background, we can glimpse the Florentine countryside, characterized by hills and trees. The painting is enclosed in an elegant lacquered wooden frame, decorated with plant motifs in perfect Renaissance style. The work is attributed to the German painter Gustav Schrödter, whose signature is visible on the bottom left side, and dates back to the second half of the 19th century.
