About the Item

Painted toward the end of the Great Depression, this striking portrait of a handsome bedouin with a traditional headdress featuring a red and white keffiyeh, was painted by Peter Opal. Little is known about the artist, but his talent is obvious in the way he captures the direct gaze of the figure, his glowing complexion, and his strong features. The painting is signed in the lower lefthand corner, and is signed and dated on the reverse. Dimensions include matte and frame; visible painting is 15.5 inches high by 11.5 inches wide.
