Rare River landscape with three fishermen on a bank and a ferry arriving at a fortified village beside a lake, oil on wooden panel, firmly attributed to be the work of Cornelis Gerritsz Decker, possibly late Seventeenth Century
Condition: Good exceptional condition with nice patination. Now offered within a later exceptional frame.

Cornelis Gerritsz Decker (1618 – 1678), was a Dutch Golden Age Landscape Painter.
He was possibly a relation of David Deckler, who was registered in the Haarlem guild as a pupil of Gerrit Clacez Bleker in Haarlem in 1640. David Decker's only known artwork was formerly attributed to Cornelis and shows strong similarity with his work.
Cornelis Gerritsz Decker became a member of the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke in 1643. He painted landscapes in the manner of artists to include Jacob van Ruisdael, Adriaen van Ostade, Philips Wouwerman and Johannes Lingelbach.

Glenquinn Castle was built in 1462 by the Ó hAilgheanáin (O'Hallinans), on the site of an older building dating back to AD 983. It was taken by the Uí Briain (O'Briens), and during the Desmond Rebellions (1569) it fell to the Geraldines until the Crown confiscated their lands in 1571. The castle was partly demolished by Walter Raleigh. By 1587 it was in the hands of the Hungerford; in 1591 it went to Sir William Courtenay, and in 1595 to a Captain Collum. It was restored by William Courtenay, 10th Earl of Devon in 1840.
