Beautiful painting by the Polish-Belgian artist Mécislas de Rakowski.
The painting shows a flower still life in a Chinese vase. Beautiful display of delicate white flowers against a dark glowing background. The painting stands out for its impressionistic touch with thick brush / pallet strokes.
The painting is framed in a beautiful wooden gilded frame, original from the time. On the back is a label of the gallery where the painting was exhibited at the time. The title of the work is 'Lilac blanc'.
Mécislas de Rakowski (Wiekovice Poland, 1887- Jambes 1947) was a talented artist who was trained in Krakow, Munich and Florence. After a short stay in Paris, he settled in Belgium. He had a preference for flower still lifes, marines, busy market squares, landscapes and (snow) cityscapes. He painted sceneries from his native region as well as sceneries from the Ardennes. His work is characterized by an impressionistic touch and generous paint paste. Its Slavic origins continued to reverberate in its design and color palette. He participated in various exhibitions.
His work is still in the spotlight and is regularly auctioned with good results.
