French Aubusson Painting Framed with an 18th Century French Fragment

About the Item

18th century French Aubusson floral painting framed with an 18th century French fragment. The oil painting original comes from France and is painted with a Aubusson-tapestry floral design with deep red and green hues. The history of Aubusson textiles dates back to the 14th century. The town of Aubusson is located in the La Marche area of France and it became renown for its famous and distinctive tapestries and textiles that reflected the height of contemporary design. Aubusson designs reflected a great diversity in themes, including depictions of religious, pastoral, and floral patterns. Aubusson textiles were highly prized from the 17th century onward for their exceptional quality and grand designs. The color palette of Aubusson designs tended to be more subdued compared to Savonnerie examples, and the patterns often featured elaborate floral garlands and bold central medallions. The aubusson floral painting creates an exceptional work of art and carries the beauty and significance of this particular type of French design.
