Giancarlo Impiglia, "The Appointment," acrylic on wood 1980 - Art Deco
About the Item
Acrylic on wood sculpture by Giancarlo Impiglia, titled "The Appointment," depicts a male figure, waiting for his appointment, with a hidden rose.
The sculpture, probably commissioned by the Fortunoff family, is published on page 81 of the catalog "The Art of Giancarlo Impiglia," published by Rizzoli New York.
Giancarlo Impiglia has created a series of sculptures called "Companions," which reproduce the most iconic subjects of his paintings in full scale, painted on both the front and back. With this series, Giancarlo Impiglia intended to bring the protagonists out of the pictorial scenes, giving them an autonomous and three-dimensional identity.
His production follows the pictorial style of Art Deco, a phenomenon that affected the period between 1919 and 1940. This is a style characterized by geometric lines and angular shapes.
The sculpture, made of acrylic on wood in 1980, measures 103x36x227 cm. It is in good condition and has undergone a cleaning of the pictorial surface. The signature and date are both visible on the left side of the base.
