"Haywagon, " Charming Art Deco-WPA Era Painting with Folk Art Influence
About the Item
This remarkable oil painting, clearly influenced by American Folk Art, Art Deco stylization and the idealization of rural workers promoted by the WPA, depicts a farm family and a handsome pair of horses pulling a wagon heaped with hay. The figures are wonderfully realized, and the high-stepping horses are magnificent! This painting is reminiscent of the work of Margaret Brisbine, who grew up in South Dakota and spent much of her career in Texas. (Dimensions include frame.).
