A very well known and highly collected animal artist, (dog portraits). Found in many museums and private collections. Period gilt frame with full conservation and cleaning performed, (canvas re-lined). Many Emms' paintings realized in the six figure range at Auction.

- Condition:Repaired: Conservation and re-lining of canvas. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor structural damages. Old tear repaired when the painting was conserved and cleaned. A clean tear that rejoined and consolidated with no visible scar.

John Emms
John Emms first exhibited in the Royal Academy in 1866. Known for his equestrian and canine portraits, his most interesting works were the dogs, with a particular fondness for foxhounds and terriers. Using bold, loose brushwork and ample paint, Emms created portraits that were sentimental and that expressed vitality.
