About the Item
Keep a view of Paris in your home with this oil on canvas painting by French painter, Lucien Delarue (circa 1970). Set inside a carved gilt frame, this detailed, architectural painting is signed in lower right corner by the artist. The art work depicts a famous landmark of Paris, "L'Ile Saint-Louis." The Ile Saint-Louis is one of two natural islands in the Seine river (the other natural island is Ile de la Cité). The island is connected to the rest of Paris by four bridges to both banks of the river and to the Île de la Cité by the Pont Saint-Louis. This island was formerly used for the grazing of market cattle and stocking wood. The painting is in excellent condition, and exhibits an excellent rendering of space and perspective, as well as a well-maintained soft pastel colors palette. This piece is the perfect way to bring a little part of Paris with you to your study or office.
Lucien Delarue (1925-2011) was born in Paris. He studied at the studios of Grande Chaumiere, Paris as a pupil of Maitre Yves Brayer and began taking part in exhibitions very early in his career, winning first prize and the Vermeil-Medaille at the Salon Violet.
Delarue also received a Gold Medal at the Salon of Vincennes, a Gold Medal at the Salon of Clichy in 1973, a silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1974 and a bronze medal at the "Arts-Sciences-Lettres" exhibition in Paris.
In 1970, Delarue's works were exhibited at the Museum of Ile de France in the chateau of Sceaux, and had other exhibitions held in New York, Dallas, and San Francisco. He was a member of the Salon des Artistes Francais and of the French Watercolor Society, and his paintings have been purchased by the municipalities of Paris and Clichy. He died in 2011 at the age of 86. Listed in the Benezit.

Lucien Delarue
Lucien Delarue was born in Paris on November 10, 1925. At a very early age he participated in many art exhibitions and was met with instantaneous success. He is known internationally as an artist who faithfully captures the romantic moods of Paris. His famous subject of the "Rooftops of Montmartre" along with other equally well executed Paris scenes compliment well his equally romantic renderings of the South of France. The harbors of nice, st tropez, Villefranche, together with repertoire. Delarue holds an impressive list of medals - gold, silver and bronze. He is a member of the French Watercolor Society. His work can be found in the Museum of Ile de France in the Chateau of Sceaux. The municipalities of Clichy and Paris have purchased his works. Today he is certainly one the most well known artists in France. His style and colors are instantly recognizable and collectors seem to have an insatiable appetite for his work. Almost any European or American collection of consequence includes one or several of his works.

19th Century Framed Landscape Oil Painting Signed L. Dupuy for E. Galien-Laloue
By Eugene Galien-Laloue
Located in Dallas, TX
Decorate a study, living room or den with this beautiful and colorful antique painting! Painted in France circa 1890, the artwork on canvas is set in the original carved gilt wood frame and illustrates a picturesque, countryside scene in rural France with a church and farmhouses in the background, a river on the side and a peasant woman in the foreground; the painting is signed in the lower left corner by the artist, L. Dupuy, one of the pseudonyms of Eugene Galien-Laloue (1854-1941). The 19th century pastoral painting is in excellent condition with rich, realistic colors in a post impressionist style; throughout the painting, the viewer can get a sense of the artist's expertise in the rendering of space, light and a beautifully hazy atmosphere.
We thank Mr. Noé Willer for confirming the authenticity of this work, which appears in his archives of the artist.
Eugène Galien-Laloue (1854-1941) was a French artist of French-Italian parents. He was a popularizer of landscapes, marine and street scenes, usually those illustrating autumn or winter settings. His paintings of the early 1900s accurately represent the era in which he lived: a happy, bustling Paris during la Belle Époque. His paintings regularly include horse-drawn carriages, trolley cars and its first omnibuses. Galien-Laloue's works are valued not only for their contribution to 20th century art, but for the actual historical content which they document. His work can be seen at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Louvier, Musée des Beaux-Arts, La Rochelle, Mulhouse, France.
Some artists or writers are content to have a pseudonym so as to disguise their work. Eugène Galien Laloue was particularly adept at establishing many identities, since over the course of his career he worked under three main pseudonyms: J. Lievin – after a soldier he met during the Franco-Prussian war, E. Galiany – an Italianized version of his own names, and L. Dupuy – after Dupuy Léon who lived in his same area. Even his name “Galien” is questionable, since on occasion he spelled it with one “l” and on his birth certificate...
