About the Item

Charming and beautifully painted, this painted backdrop for theatre, perhaps for a residential space or a small professional theatre, depicts several ballet dancers, one releasing a bird from its cage. The cubistic urn with fruit in the foreground, and the stylized checkerboard floor and townhouse backdrop, show the strong influence of classicized surrealism, which started in France and Italy and quickly found its way to Hollywood and Broadway.
