About the Item
Strikingly executed in rich tones of brown and charcoal contrasting with brighter colors, this watercolor depiction of a seated African American man, with one arm raised to his neck, is beautiful and evocative. The figure's skin tones are captured in a rich array of tans, ruddy browns and gold, and the air around him seems to vibrate in tones of blue, yellow and green. Although not signed, this piece was executed by an artist associated with the famed Brown County Art Colony, which formed in a bucolic setting an hour south of Indianapolis. The painting is on heavy, textured rag paper.
