About the Item

Southern Italian view of a town, Attributed to Salvatore Balsamo (Napoli, 1894 – Napoli, 1922), 19th/20th Cent. Salvatore Balsamo was an Italian painter of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He died young so we have very little information about him although he left a good amount of paintings that can be included amongst the Italian painters of his period. He grew up in Naples and was a pupil of Vincenzo Irolli and Giuseppe Casciaro. He devoted himself mostly to landscapes and views of southern Italian towns, as well as portraits and interior scenes. The painting shown here unfortunately only has some remnants of his signature on the left side, which obligates us to attribute it to Salvatore Balsamo. However, the quality of the painting, the robust and spontaneous stroke typical of this artist can only confirm in our opinion that it is one of his works . Frame included Measurements: H 23.5" x W 19.5" x D 2.5"
