About the Item

Jan Frans van Bloemen called Orizzonte (Antwerp 1662-Rome 1749). A Late 17th early 18th century Italian landscape with figures of the Roman Campagna. Jan Frans van Bloemen (Antwerp 12 May 1662 - Rome 13 June 1749) called Orizzonte or Horizzonte, was a Flemish landscape painter of the Baroque period. He was a pupil of Anton Goubau. He moved to Paris, Lyon, Turin and then finally to Rome (Italy) where he lived for the rest of his life. He joined the Bentvueghels, the association of Dutch and Flemish artists in Rome, where he took the nickname Orizzonte or Horizonti. He was also member of the Flemish (Schildersbent) and the Roman (Accademia di San Luca) guild. He became quite famous in Rome for his extensive roman campagna landscape paintings with very soft, warm light colors following the steps of Claude Lorrain and Gaspard Dughet. Measurements with frame included H 18.5 inches x W 27.5 inches x D 1.8 inches
