After Georges Braque, Mosaïque, "Pelias Et Nelee"
Located in Geneve, CH
Beautiful Mosaic after Georges Braque. Signed and numbered. Edition of IV. Dimensions: 120 x 160 cm. Mosaic executed by Heidi Melano (one of the most important French Mosaist, she collaborated with Chagall, Braque, Modigliani). This Mosaic has been exhibited in: Art Museum of the Imperial Palace, China, 2012. Nanjing museum, 2012. Muse´e Georges Braque, Saint-Die´-des-Vosges, 2013. From the gouache "Pelias et Ne´le´e,' dated 1962. Bibliography: "Les Me´tamorphoses de Braque" of Heger de Loewenfeld and Raphae¨l de Cuttoli, Editions FAC, Paris, 1989. In 1961 Georges Braque decided with his laidary friend Heger de Loewenfeld to pick up certain of his works to in order to create artworks, this beautiful mosaic is one of them. The father of Cubism. Three Cubist that distinguishes art historian periods were initiated and developed by Georges Braque: The Cubist Ce´zanne (1907-1909), Executive (1909-1912) and synthetic (1912-1922). Post-Impressionist and fawn, Braque no longer adheres to the contingency of a decorative way or the other. Ce´zanne’s paintings exhibited at the Grand Palais during the retrospective of 1907 are a Revelation: Ce´zanne sought and invented a pictorial language. In his footsteps, Braque went to the South with the reasons of the Master. He returned with Estaque landscapes and surprising Ciotat it keeps Cezanne geometric model and retains the “passages” continuity from one surface to another to create the sensation of “turning around” of the object represented. But he wants to go after the consequences of the vision of Cezanne. In his paintings Houses in L’Estaque (1908) it simplifies the volumes of houses, neglects detail by removing doors and windows: the plastic rhythm that builds the table. Large nude, a masterpiece of the period, can be considered the first work of Ce´zanne cubism. Systematizing and deepening Braque discoveries open the door analytical cubism. In 1909, his painting became more cerebral than sensual. The pattern is recreated in the two-dimensionality of the canvas, leaving aside any illusionistic perspective. In still life with violin, objects are analyzed facets according to their characteristic elements, each facet referring to a particular view of the object. There are so many facets of points selected view: Table reflects the knowledge of the object and the ubiquity of the eye. Moreover, Braque is looking for the essence of the objects in the world rather than their contingency, which explains the absence of light source and use of muted colors (gray, ocher), contingent aspects of the object. But formal logic has stepped facets, erased any anecdote to the object and ultimately led to his painting a hermetic more marked on the edge of abstraction (see the series of Castle Roche-Guyon). Braque, anxious to keep the concrete and refusing at all costs that the logic of Cubism takes the paintings to abstract, reintroduced signs of reality in his paintings in 1912 marks the beginning of Synthetic Cubism. Historians speak of “signs of real” rather than reality because what interests Braque, this is not to put reality into a table, but to create a painting which, by its language, refers to the real. To do this, he invented two major techniques 20th century inclusions and contributions. The inclusions consist of painting objects that have no real depth, materials (wallpaper in Nature morte aux playing cards faux wood...

19th Century French Carved Walnut Royal Coat of Arms of Canada in Gilt Frame
Located in Dallas, TX
Crafted in France circa 1880 and set on a colorful plaid background fabric, the elegant framed shield features the coat of arms of Canada. Hand carved in solid fruitwood, the detailed Blason is in excellent condition with a rich walnut patina; decorate a man's office or study with this fine antique crest! The Arms of Canada also known as the Royal Coat of Arms of Canada is, since 1921, the official coat of arms of the Canadian monarch and thus also of Canada. It is closely modeled after the royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom with French and distinctive Canadian elements replacing or added to those derived from the British version. The maple leaves in the shield, blazoned "proper", were originally drawn green but were redrawn red in 1957 and a circlet of the Order of Canada was added to the arms for limited use in 1987. The shield design forms the monarch's royal standard and is also found on the Canadian Red Ensign. The Flag of the Governor General of Canada, which formerly used the shield over the Union Flag, now uses the crest of the arms on a blue field. The arms are embossed on the covers of Canadian passports, in order to legally signify and symbolize that the bearer is traveling under the aid of the Crown of Canada. A Mari Usque Ad Mare (English: From Sea to Sea) is the Canadian national motto. The phrase comes from the Latin Vulgate translation of Psalm 72:8 in the Bible: "Et dominabitur a mari usque ad mare, et a flumine usque ad terminos terrae". (King James Bible...

19th Century French Brass Wall Fountain, Lavabo
Located in Dallas, TX
19th century French brass wall fountain ~ Lavabo is a charming relic from a bygone era! Back before the days of ubiquitous running water in every room of the house, folks were obliged to create ingenious solutions like this wall fountain. Such a piece would be placed just outside or inside the back door, so that when it was time to come inside from working in the fields, one could wash hands and face before entering the home. The reservoir above held sufficient water for the task, and the basin below captured the waste water for dumping later via an easily removable hanging system. The cast brass valves...

18th Century Parisian Giltwood Barometer Thermometer
Located in Dallas, TX
This lovely giltwood barometer and thermometer was hand-carved during the Louis XVI period in Paris, France. During the late 1700’s, barometers were typically only owned by wealthy families. Over time, barometers began to be viewed as works of art and could be found in middle class homes throughout Europe. The highly detailed crown of our apparatus depicts a footed vase bursting with a floral display. The garland trails down in an arch shape until it reaches an angular platform adorned with molding and vertical fluting. The flowered swag continues behind the platform, transitioning into a pair of gadrooned leaves. Each gadrooned leaf terminates in a husked cornucopia overflowing with laurel leaves. A large circular barometer dial is positioned in between the cornucopias. Under the barometer is a looping lambrequin that borders the top half of the thermometer. A pair of gadrooned leaves runs behind and through the lambrequin, flanking the lower half of the thermometer. A fluted base beneath the thermometer sits in a gadrooned cup. The detail of the carvings on this late 18th century Parisian...
