About the Item

A Georgian pink topaz and gold cannetille suite, the necklace consisting of five graduating from the centre oval-cut pink topaz-set gold links, from the central suspended three pear-shaped topaz-set drops, the links joined together by six oval-cut topaz-set collets with beading decoration, attached to a gold mesh chain with oval-cut topaz-set clasp, the brooch and earrings of similar design, the bracelet consisted of three scalloped-edge plaques each centrally-set with a topaz on a wire-work background, attached to a mesh chain, circa 1800, the necklace measuring approximately 40 x 4.5cm, the earrings measuring approximately 4.4 x 1.6cm, the brooch measuring approximately 3.5x3.6 cm, gross weight 84.2grams. This magnificent Georgian parure consists of a necklace, earrings, brooch, and bracelet and comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Made in the early nineteenth century, this suite features gold cannetille and pink topaz. Cannetille is an intricate gold wirework technique that was popular during the late Georgian period: the scrolling, ornate shapes formed by the wirework were inspired by eighteenth century embroidery found on peasant garments. Cannetille was a delicate, labour intensive process, and this jewellery suite reflects the detailed craftsmanship of the period. The pink topaz provides a bright and colourful complement to the yellow gold. The pieces in this suite can be worn separately for a more subtle look or can be worn all together with an evening gown for a nod to the past. Should you choose to make this purchase we will delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
