About the Item

Created by legendary designer and premier tastemaker of the Gilded Age, Louis Comfort Tiffany, this necklace is a rare and unique masterpiece of jewelry design. Delicately crafted, the necklace boasts an Egyptian Revival design inspired by the archaeological excavations of Egypt beginning in the late 18th century. Scarab beetles finely executed in Tiffany’s signature favrile glass are bezel set in an 18K gold chain with rope-like links. The beetles flash iridescent hues of deep blue, green and purple, adding the perfect amount of shimmer to the enchanting design. Best remembered for his stained glass windows and lamps, along with his Favrile glass creations, Louis Comfort Tiffany did not begin crafting jewelry until 1902. Inspired by the fluidity and translucence of ancient Roman and Middle Eastern glass, Louis C. Tiffany produced blown glass with opalescent and iridescent colored finishes, which he dubbed "Favrile," between 1891 and 1928. The present piece combines the best aspects of Tiffany’s diverse output, including his famed Favrile glass, a keen eye for design and the nature-inspired Art Nouveau aesthetics he perfected. The necklace comes complete with its original box. Signed “Tiffany & Co.” Circa 1910 20" length

Tiffany & Co. Kashmir Sapphire Necklace, 10.25 Carats
By Tiffany & Co.
Located in New Orleans, LA
Crafted by the legendary Tiffany & Co., this enchanting necklace is a rare and unique masterpiece of early 20th-century American jewelry design. Delicately handcrafted, the one-of-a-kind creation is set with two stunning examples of Kashmir sapphires weighing 5.65 and 4.60 respectively. These gemstones are certified by the American Gemological Laboratories as Kashmir in origin and completely untreated, an extreme rarity for Kashmirs. Dozens of sparkling white diamond accents complement the brilliant blue stones in a romantic, winding 18K yellow gold setting. These incredible sapphires would have been sourced by George Frederick Kunz, Tiffany & Co.'s expert gemologist, who selected only the finest gemstones for the firm's unique creations. The sapphires in this necklace are truly superior examples. Kashmir sapphires were first unearthed in the early 1880s after a landslide in the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent. They are celebrated not only for their rarity, but also for the softness of their distinctive blue hue. Boasting incredible color and brilliance, untreated Kashmir sapphires of this quality are scarce, especially within an antique Tiffany setting. Since the firm's inception in 1837, Tiffany & Co. has been at the forefront of luxurious design and craftsmanship, especially in the realm of fine jewelry. Founder Charles Lewis Tiffany...

Ethiopian Opal Bead Necklace, 680.00 Carats
Located in New Orleans, LA
Thirty-four solid opal beads totaling approximately 680.00 carats line the length of this eye-catching necklace. The graduated gems are an impressive size and perfectly matched, with each exhibiting a high level of translucence and a rainbow of colors. Opals are not cut into beads very often, as they are usually found in thin layers, and bigger deposits are exceptionally rare. Cutting the round structure also creates a great deal of excess– about 90% of the rough opal is cut away to create just one bead. To find 34 matching beads of this size and exceptional quality is extraordinary beyond compare. Opals are truly the stuff of legend. It was the Romans who first classified the black opal as a precious gemstone, believing that it was a source of good fortune. Since that time, the black opal has found its way into the crown jewels of many nations, including the Holy Roman Empire...
