Ambrosi Contemporary Champagne Diamond Pendant
About the Item
Ambrosi returns to the natural subject of the grape arbor multiple times in their oeuvre, creating jeweled statement pieces that depict the broad leaves, unmistakable vines, and coiling tendrils at peak summer vitality. This gestural Ambrosi Contemporary Champagne Diamond Pendant, made in Italy in the Contemporary Era, circa the 2010s, lovingly depicts two grape leaves, one in sunlight, one in the shade, embellished with enough fanciful coiling tendrils to entrance and delight.
The pendant is crafted in 18K white gold and set with round brilliant-cut champagne diamonds weighing approximately 3.89 carats and round brilliant-cut white diamonds weighing about 3.12 carats of G-H color and VS clarity. As with their other meditations on this subject matter, various sizes of sparkling rounds suggest the undulation in the leaves, a tender detail which Ambrosi is known for. Ambrosi flowers and natural forms have their roots in the flowing, curved lines of the Art Nouveau period (1890-1914) but have blossomed into a sophisticated, at times otherworldly style all their own. The sizeable pendant measures 2.5 x 1.63 inches (6.35 x 4.14 cm) and can be strung in multiple directions by threading a chain, not included, through any of the tendril loops.
The Italian jewelry house, established in 1949 by Remo Deambrosi in Valenza, Provincia di Alessandria, Piedmont, was highly successful and renowned in just half a century for its superior craftsmanship, particularly in lapidary. Their skillful hand-carved cabochon shapes and beautiful gemstones capture light as it dances on the lustrous and sparkling surfaces. In this keenly observed sculptural pendant, the delicate folds of the natural forms are rendered with grace and sensitivity. Furthermore, in contrast to bright white diamonds for the other, champagne diamonds for one leaf hold the legal nuances up to the light for us to ponder.
The skillful way the diamonds cling to each coiling vine becomes even more apparent when you see the piece from the reverse side. Not one single diamond is visible from the back. Despite the challenging shape, all face forward to maximize the sparkle. Additionally, there is azuring in the metal behind the gemstones. Azuring is a technique that adds hours to the fabrication, where shaped cutouts are hand-carved behind each stone to allow light in and amplify the sparkle. From all angles, the skillful artisanship of the statement pendant is breathtaking with its Italian hallmark.

Remo’s daughter Tiziana and her husband Gianni Stivanello grew De Ambrosi Paris’s reputation on the international stage while Remo’s grandson Andrea, together with his wife Diletta, work to maintain the family-run company's position as a modern jewelry brand that merges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary style.
