1920s Egyptian Revival Silver Gilt and Enamel Vintage Charms Necklace
Located in Skelmersdale, GB
This beautiful necklace is emblematic of the evocative 1920s Egyptian Revival aesthetic and was made in France. Condition Report: Very Good - A slight kink in the chain and a tiny bend at the base of one of the charms. This is consistent with age and use and does not detract from the appeal of the piece. The Details... Although un-hallmarked, this necklace is most likely constructed from silver gilt. It features a delicate herringbone chain. Suspended from the chain is a selection of Egyptian inspired charms. There are Ankhs, Lotus flowers and Hamsa hand symbols. There are also three postage stamp charms detailed with skiff boats on the Nile and the goddess, Hathor. The necklace fastens with a bolt ring and measures 38cm in length. A Short History... In 1922, Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun and, thereby, ignited a Western fascination with Ancient Egypt which permeated the Arts. Jewellery designers created heavily stylised profiles of people and hieroglyphs taken from tomb walls, as can be seen in this necklace. Reviving Egyptian...

Egyptian Revival Plique à Jour Enameled Horus Necklace In 18Kt Gold With Coral
Located in Miami, FL
An Egyptian revival Plique à Jour enamel Orus necklace Very beautiful and colorful piece made with Egyptian revival motifs from the ancient kingdom of the Pharaohs. The main focus part is the figure of a falcon with open wings in representation of the Egyptian god Horus. The necklace has been carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished and brushed finishes and is accented with applications of inlaid glass enamel. The wings are worked out with the difficult enameling technique of Plique à Jour. It is fitted with a push boxed security lock, with a hinged figure 8 for extra safety. Horus Horus is the god of the sky, of war and protector of kingship according to the ancient Egyptian religion, mostly depicted in the form of a falcon, the son of Isis and Osiris was conceived after the rebirth of the father whom he avenged and succeeded; he is the god to whom every ruling pharaoh identified himself. Horus is the god of the sun. He was the symbol of good and faith. His father was Osiris who was the god as well for the ancient Egyptians even after his death as mentioned in the book of the dead. Coral: Mounted in bezel settings, with 3 round cabochons cuts of natural red coral, with a weight of about 2 carats Coral: Mounted in cords settings, with 12 round beads cuts of 4 mm carved from natural red coral, with a weight of about 4.80 carats. Weight: 36.20 Grams, (23.21 Dwt). Length Size: 17 Inches, (43 Cm). Measurements: The open-wings eagle is 46 mm by 50 mm (1.81 x 1.97 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the mark for the assay of the gold and signed, "AD10 .750 GB". Plique à jour This is a French term that means, "letting in daylight". Is a very difficult vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass and is considered very challenging technically: high time...

Egyptian Revival Small Turquoise Faience Scarab Pendant with 14K Gold Mount
Located in Venice, CA
During the early 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and introduced what is referred to as "Egyptian Revival Jewelry." The first Egyptian Revival period began around the 1820’s, inspired by the unearthing of ancient Egyptian ruins during that time. Images such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics became popular motifs in fashion. Pieces were often crafted using a material known as Egyptian Paste or "faience", which is the oldest form of non-clay glazed ceramic and usually found in a range of blue and green colors.  In the 1920’s, there was another unearthing of treasures, making the trend popular once again. This scarab pendant is from that era—the third Egyptian Revival period. The scarab is a turquoise colored faience bead with green overtones in its recesses that delineate the shape of the beetle. There are hieroglyphics on the back of the scarab. At the bottom of the scarab is a round 14k gold ball that extends as a wire through the bead and forms a bale at the top. The pendant measures 7/8“ from the bottom of the ball to the top of the bale. The scarab measures 1/2” x 5/16”. The bale measures 5 mm. The piece weighs 1.06 grams. The gold is unmarked and acid tests as 14k. The scarab is in excellent condition for its age and is ready to hang on a chain of your choice. We have other sizes and colors of scarab jewelry...
