Black Jade Ring in Handmade Baroque Silver Setting
About the Item
Looking like a ring straight from the 17th-century, this contemporary Baroque-style hand-fabricated silver ring showcases a high-polish oval cabochon of certified untreated black Burmese jadeite. Actually, it's dark green jade. But unless it's backlit and resting on a window ledge, it reads as black. Although sometimes a moody swirl of bluish-green will inexplicably appear, which you can see in the images. So rather than being entirely black-black like an onyx ring, this black gem is black except for the unpredictable occasions it decides not to be.
The ring was hand-crafted by a jeweler in Mexico and has not been worn. What attracted me to this ring initially was the gleam of the black jade and the deeply carved and oxidized mounting. It's such a uniquely impressive ring. It's also satisfyingly weighty and substantial, tipping the scales at 19.45 grams.
Currently a size 8 ¾, this ring could be resized by your local jeweler. The ring ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is Burmese jadeite and is untreated.
