About the Item

This amazing ring is actually a very ladylike and traditional antique bar pin that Eytan converted to a very contemporary and very kickass cocktail ring The face of the ring was an Edwardian-era (roughly 1900 to 1920) bar pin in a classic lozenge shape with a symmetrical array of diamonds and sapphire baguettes used as accents. The diamonds are all hand-cut and either bead- or pavé-set. The five largest stones are old European cuts while the two smallest stones (at the tips) are single cuts and the remaining twelve stones are something in-between. Most of the stones are not quite round and four of the smaller stones appear to have been intentionally cut as rectangular cushions. Clarities are generally low (not unusual for this kind of pin, and not surprising considering the probable source of these diamonds was not South Africa). But what they lack in crystal clarity they more than make up for in soul and sheer variety. How boring if each and every stone was a bright white brilliant cut! We came up with a total weight for all nineteen diamonds of just over 2.5 carats. Our itemized diamond inventory is available upon request. The sapphires, set in coin-edged bezels, are probably synthetic as this would have been customary for the period -- a way in insuring perfect color-matching (and perfect clarity) for accent stones. We estimate the weight of the four sapphire baguettes at 0.20 carats. For the shank, Eytan was going to make a plain band, but a platinum engagement ring, probably dating from the 1980's or 1990's, and recently relieved of its center diamond offered a much better alternative. This ring has a carinated (aka knife-edged) band that Eytan thought perfectly suited the bulging sides of the ring's face. And of course the added ooh-la-la of a half carat in channel-set round and princess-cut diamonds sparkling on the shoulders doesn't hurt either. Currently, this ring is a size 5.5. Eytan will resize up to a 7.5 at no charge for full-price buyers. Resizing is otherwise negotiable. Weights & Measurements > Ring face - length: 47 mm (just under 1-7/8") > Ring face - width: 20mm (just over 3/4") > Band 2.2 mm > Band thickness: 1.2 mm > Total diamond weight - face: 19 stones & 2.50 carats (estimated) > Total diamond weight - band: 44 stones & 0.54 carats > Total diamond weight: 3.04 carats (estimated) > Total sapphire weight: 0.20 carats (estimated) > Ring weight: 11.5 grams Needless to say (but we'll say it), all diamonds are natural (i.e., earth-mined and untreated). Your purchase includes an appraisal for insurance purposes.

Additions or alterations made to the original: This ring is an assembled piece by Eytan Brandes consisting of an early 20th Century diamond and sapphire bar pin (hardware removed and joins polished to remove the evidence) soldered on to a diamond engagement ring that was probably made in the 70s. Polished. Four of the smaller diamonds are chipped or grazed. One diamond is probably a replacement (but it is still an old cut).

GIA-Certified 1.99 Carat Oval Sapphire in Platinum Edwardian-Style Bombe Setting
Located in Sherman Oaks, CA
Eytan Brandes designed this ring using various elements he likes from Edwardian engagement rings, such as the carinated band, the coin-edged pavé setting plates, and the elevated, almost puffy face. But while a ring like this would traditionally be set with diamonds, Eytan gave it a more striking, contemporary look by setting it entirely in sapphires. The center prong-set sapphire is a nearly round oval. To maximize both its color and its sparkle, a mixed cut has been used (i.e., the crown is brilliant cut, while the pavilion is a step cut). Included with the ring is a GIA report authenticating the stone as a natural, heat-treated sapphire weighing 1.99 carats. The pavé mounting is made up of little coin...

GIA Certified H/VS2 1.03 Carat Diamond in Bombe Edwardian-Style Platinum Ring
By Eytan Brandes
Located in Sherman Oaks, CA
Eytan Brandes designed this ring using various elements he likes from Edwardian engagement rings, such as the carinated shank, the coin-edged pavé setting plates, and the elevated, almost bombé face. This is the second time he has used this mounting, and this is the first time he's set it entirely in diamonds. The center prong-set diamond is a clean and beautiful brilliant cut round stone weighing 1.03 carats. The prongs rise from a band (not actually a bezel) around the stone, minimizing the prongy effect, and keeping the stone's elevation at a graceful minimum. The dramatically curved face of the mounting is made up of little coin-edged plates, joined from below. Each plate hosts between one and five stones meticulously set by our best gem-setter. The little banner-shaped plates around the center stone give it a whimsical eight-pointed star halo, while the long plates...
