About the Item

A geometric sculptural ring designed by Raymond Templier (1891-1968). This is an amazing and very rare sculptural ring, created in Paris France by the jewelry designer Raymond Templier, back in the 1930-1935. The ring is gorgeous collector's piece and was designed with strong and sharp geometric patterns. The ring was crafted with several parts made up in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with high polished finish and platinum for the settings of the diamonds. It is embellished with natural gemstones, such; twelve old European diamonds, one carved black onyx and one carved lapis lazuli. The geometric shape of this ring belongs to his first period, where he explored the conjunction of volumes in three dimensions, of different shapes and accented by colors, materials and textures. Diamonds: Mounted in a pave setting, with 12 calibrated old European round cut diamonds, with about 0.80 carats, white colorless F/G color, VS/SI clarity. Onyx: Mount in a bezel setting, with 1 flat cabochon cut carved from natural black onyx. Lapis lazuli: Mount in a bezel setting, with 1 half cylinder cabochon cut carved from natural blue lapis lazuli. Weight: 14.85 Grams, (9.52 Dwt). Size: 9.5 and may be easily sized up or down on special request. In the case a sizing is need we strongly recommend a removable spring sizer to avoid any alteration in the piece. Measurements: 26 mm by 22 mm (1.02 x 0.87 Inches) and raise 7 mm over the finger. Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks; the maker's mark RT inside a lozenge cartouche associated to Raymond Templier, the mark of the eagle for the assay and warranty of the 18kt gold and signed in full as follows: "RAYMOND TEMPLIER". Raymond Templier He, like many of his contemporaries in jewelry, was born to a family with a long tradition as jewelers. His grandfather, Charles, founded the firm of Templier in Paris in 1849. His son Paul, father of Raymond, continued the tradition. Raymond entered the business in 1919. From 1909 until 1912, Raymond studied at the Ecole Superior des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. After completing his studies, he joined the family jewelry business. Raymond, however, was not interested in making the kind of traditional jewelry that the House of Templier had been producing. He had already been doing some innovative designing – his earlier designs were not yet Cubist, but quickly became increasingly so. He was interested in the images that were coming out of Cubism-he wanted to translate Cubist ideas into jewelry. In 1911, he exhibited at several important Salons, and also became a member of the Conseil Superior des Arts Decoratifs . He also participated in the 1925 and 1937 Paris Exhibitions. Templier was an important figure in the Art Deco movement. He was one of the founders of the UAM – UNION DES ARTISTES MODERNES, along with such other important figures as Pierre Chareau and Jean Puiforcat. Templier personally designed every piece of jewelry that bears his signature. His drawings are not only quite beautiful, but they also show his fascination with certain forms that recur in many of his designs. Literature: Laurence Mouillefarine, Raymond Templier Le Bijou Moderne, Norma Editions, 2005. for similar models illustrated. Sylvie Raulet, Art Deco Jewelry, 1985 Rizzoli, Pp 236-245 for similar examples illustrated. Collateral: This ring is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box.
