About the Item

A fine emerald-green Burmese jadeite jade cabochon glows imperially from within its thick, heavy solid 22K gold setting. Six thick claws hold the luminous jade cabochon in place. This magnificent and exceedingly rare jade ring is so extraordinary, it's been photographed and written about in both the December 5th, 2016 issue of The New York Times and the October 2016 issue of Town & Country magazine. That's pretty famous for a ring. The rich, saturated and even tone of this large (17.40 mm x 12.18 mm x 4.84 mm) highly-translucent old-mine double cabochon of natural and untreated jadeite jade from Burma is the stuff of legends; not the stuff you actually see for sale in stores. Originally, this magnificent jade cabochon belonged to a base-metal ring. I designed a new mounting and commissioned a Manhattan jeweler to fabricate it for me. I chose 22 karat gold for its rich color. And because gold of this purity is soft compared to platinum or lower karat gold, I designed a very thick, substantial band. At its thinnest point at the rear of the shank, the band is 1.75 mm thick and increases to 3.67 mm near the stone. Jade is among the most durable gems. And this weighty (16 grams) ring was designed to be worn by an active person every day. This jadeite stone has such "life" to it. It changes throughout the day and is freshly beautiful each moment. It is a size 9 and could be resized by a fine jeweler. It is statistically unlikely that you or I will ever encounter another jade cabochon ring this exquisite. Which makes this a rare opportunity to acquire a jewel of both scarcity and unearthly beauty. Ships with GIA report (#1146974457) stating the jade to be natural and untreated.
