Located in Culver City, CA
"Arabian Nights" Painting 9" x 12" inch (1997) by Ibrahim Abd Elmalak Emancipation, 1991 Ink on Paper. Signed & dated View works. SHARE Abd Elmalak’s diverse portfolio exemplifies not only his versatility, but perhaps even more importantly his unique ability to blend the conventional and unconventional in thoughtful harmony, which esteemed Modernist and author Hussein Bicar (1913-2002) deemed a “highly intelligent duality between the kinetics of the universe and its stillness.” The selection of Abd Elmalak’s drawings is reflective of a compositional method that is based on free-flowing and distinct lines and contours that he uses to amalgamate caricature-Esque female figures with monuments and landmarks from his travels, script, animals, and natural elements into interconnected and unified tapestries. His selected paintings explore themes of entrapment, companionship, oppression, emancipation, and faith, which he explores and animate through his demure and virtuous women subjects...

Inseparable
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
The artwork titled "Inseparable" portrays a strong relationship between women and Aje, the Yoruba deity of wealth, prosperity, and feminine power. The piece captures the essence of this relationship through vibrant colors, intricate details, and symbolic imagery. The details in the artwork are also significant. The women wear traditional Yoruba attire, with intricate patterns and symbols that reflect their cultural heritage. The necklace on the neck is adorned with cowrie shells, and other ornaments, which represent the wealth and prosperity that Aje brings to her devotees. Aje has no gender yet it's inseparable from feminine You're in search for aje but left behind the woman Surely you've failed even before you start You're on the journey of making it really big but neglect the power of the source Do you think a river can ever have any wonder aside from the source Women and wealth are inseparable yet women are the destroyer of AJÉ The artwork "Inseparable" is a testament to the deep connection between women and Aje. It portrays the strength and resilience of women and the power and prosperity that Aje brings to those who honor her. It also celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people and their reverence for the divine feminine. Overall, this piece is a beautiful tribute to the enduring relationship between women and Aje. Love From Afar
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
"Love From Afar" presents a young lady, portrayed with intricate attention to detail, as she gazes into the distance. The artist's skillful brushwork brings life to the subject's features, capturing the complexity of emotions within her eyes and facial expression. The composition is deliberately crafted to draw the viewer's attention to the lady's contemplative gaze, which hints at a deep longing or unfulfilled desire. The use of subdued and muted tones in the artwork adds to its emotional resonance. The soft color palette creates an atmosphere of melancholy and introspection, evoking a sense of yearning and wistfulness. The deliberate choice of lighting and shadows adds depth and mystery, emphasizing the emotional journey portrayed in the artwork. "Love From Afar" encapsulates the universal experience of longing and unrequited love. The young lady's distant gaze symbolizes the ache of yearning for someone who is physically or emotionally out of reach. Her expression is filled with a mix of hope, vulnerability, and resignation. The artwork becomes a mirror, reflecting the viewer's own experiences of longing and the bittersweet beauty that accompanies it. Oladapo's artwork speaks to the human condition, reminding us of the complexities of love and desire. It encapsulates the emotions that arise when we are captivated by someone but cannot bridge the gap between us. Through the portrayal of the young lady's distant gaze, the artist invites viewers to contemplate their own experiences of unrequited love and the profound emotions that come with it. "Love From Afar" has the power to resonate with viewers on a deeply personal level. It serves as a reminder that longing and unrequited love are universal experiences, transcending culture, time, and boundaries. The artwork elicits empathy and introspection, prompting viewers to reflect on their own emotional journeys and the connections they have forged from afar. Moreover, "Love From Afar" highlights the delicate beauty that exists within longing. It reminds us that even in the absence of physical or emotional closeness, there is a certain allure and tenderness that emerges from the unfulfilled desires of the heart. The artwork invites us to appreciate the complexities of human emotions and find solace in the shared experiences of longing and love. Agboola Oladapo...
