Oil painting "Lorelei" Jules-Joseph Lefebvre attr. ca. 1890
Located in Klosterneuburg, AT
Jules Joseph Lefebvre (1834-1912) first came to Vienna when he exhibited at the Vienna World Exhibition in 1873. In 1879 he became honorable member of the Akademie of Fine Arts Vienna and was called to be a member of the jury of the First International Art Exhibition in Vienna at the Wiener Künstlerhaus in 1882. From this moment on, he exhibited regularly in the Austrian Empire until 1902. In 1882, the Austrian Cultural Ministry purchased his portrait of “La Fiammetta”. In 1895 and 1896, the renowned Galerie Miethke exhibited works by him, the painting “Madeleine” from 1876 among them. We believe that this particular work was to be exhibited at the “III. International Art Exhibition” in the Künstlerhaus in Vienna. The stock book of the exhibition clearly shows the entry in the French section of “Le Febre, Jule”, the name of the work “Lorelei” and the sales price of 35.000 Francs. The fact that the price is very high compared to his colleagues (Henner & Vibert 15.000 Francs) and that the frame for this piece was delivered in a separate box suggests that the work was quite large. It was found in a Villa in Vienna’s 19th district. Not only the frame but also the size and quality of the painting instantly beguiles the beholder. The format and the mythological motif of the “Lorelei” are very much in line with other known paintings by this artist. The composition of the oeuvre is also typical of the works of Jules Lefebvre: a central female figurine in a classic Italian pose, one knee slightly in front of the other. The painted rock in the background is also similar to the actual “Loreley” rock wall in Germany near Koblenz. Another beguiling fact is the model itself: in 1880, Jules Lefebvre discovered a young girl at the Hippodrome in Paris. Her name was Marie-Florentine Roger or Sarah Brown...

Mixed Media on Paper and Wood Behind Aryl Glass Mimmo Paladino, Italy 2009
By Mimmo Paladino
Located in Salzburg, AT
Mixed media on paper and wood behind aryl glass Mimmo Paladino, Italy 2009 (2/20) Mimmo Paladino found art inspired by his uncle, a painter who introduced him to traditional techniques at an early age. After attending the 1964 Venice Biennale, he made the decision to become an artist. He studied painting at the Liceo Artistico in Benevento from 1964 to 1968 and, influenced by Max Ernst and Paul Klee, experimented with collages, frottages and non-objective paintings. In 1968 he finished his academic training with a diploma and began to paint freely. In the early to Mid-1970s, the artist dealt almost exclusively with mythological themes, such as the Icarus myth, which he translated into drawings. In the process, Paladino developed his own fresco-like technique, significant for his later work, in which he painted large-scale walls with pastel colors. Paladino had his first exhibition in 1977 at the "Galerie Lucio Amelio" in Naples. Several trips to Milan as well as contact with the art critic Tommaso Trini and the gallery owner Franco Toselli soon made Paladino known nationwide. In Toselli's gallery he presented his murals for the first time in 1978. That same year he traveled to New York, where he met Sandro Chia and Francesco Clemente. Several trips to Brazil followed. In 1980 Mimmo Paladino, together with the publisher Emilio Mazzoli, published a book with texts by Achille Bonito Oliva. The art critic Oliva had introduced the term Transavanguardia at the end of the 1970s for the style of the new movement, mainly characterized by young Italian artists such as Chia, Clemente, Enzo Cucchi and Paladino, who found parallels in Germany with the Neue Wilde. In the same year Paladino participated in the Aperto 80 Biennale in Venice and in 1982 in the Biennale of Sydney. In the following years Paladino had exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum in Basel and at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Bologna. In 1999 he had an extensive retrospective at the Lenbachhaus in Munich and in the same year he became an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. The Centro per l'arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato dedicated an extensive retrospective to him in 2002/2003.[1] Works by Mimmo Paladino can be found in the collections of the Tate Gallery in London, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) in Dublin, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The artist lives and works in Milan and Benevento, Italy. PLANT Mimmo Paladino's works are often mixed media on paper or wood pre-sketched with drawing pencil, using all traditional means. His oeuvre includes watercolor, oil painting, and tempera, as well as collage, frottage, engraving, drypoint, or woodcut. Paladino's paintings are often untitled. Examples 1987: The Perfect Room 1992: hortus conclusus, horse sculpture in Benevento, Chiostro di San Domenico 1993: montagna bianca 2002: Le chien 2004: ciclismo 2008: Porta di Lampedusa - Porta d'Europa, iron sculpture covered with ceramic plates on the beach of Lampedusa in memory of the migrants who lost their lives at sea EXHIBITIONS 1979: Transavanguardia, Turin 1980: Venice Biennale, Venice 1982: documenta 7, Kassel 1982: Biennale of Sydney, Sydney 1984: Merianpark, Basel, sculpture in the 20th century...

Modern Cubistic Painting in Acrylics on Canvas by Fritzie Abadi, New York 2001
By Fritzie Abadi
Located in Salzburg, AT
Cubist painting in acrylics on canvas, Fritzie Abadi New York, 2001 In strong muted colors, angular figures and elements are divided and reassembled in a different context. The elements are partly bright and finely outlined, which makes this even more plastic and stronger in their effect. The high, narrow format makes the image a special eye-catcher. Expressive modern representation in handmade shadow gap frame. The frame is 4.5cm wide and has a slightly raised silver-plated front bar of 1.5cm. Fritzie Abadi (1915 – 2001) was an American painter, sculptor, and collage artist. Born in Aleppo, which was then part of the Ottoman Empire. Biography: The daughter of a rabbi, Abadi lived in Palestine until she was nine years old. She then emigrated to New York City in 1924. She won a drawing competition while attending Bay Ridge High School, and this fostered an early interest in art. She married at eighteen and moved to Oklahoma City, giving birth to two daughters and "forgot about art". In 1945 she returned to Brooklyn, and in 1946 she enrolled in the Art Students League of New York; there she studied under Nahum Tschacbasov. Her work is included in several museum collections such as the Butler Institute of American Art, the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science, the Slater Memorial Museum, and the Georgia Museum of Art. She has also exhibited in many venues throughout her career. She has also received several awards including the Acrylic Painting Award of the National Association of Women Artists (1974) and the Box Assemblage Award from the American Society of Contemporary Artists (1979). She was a member of both institutions, serving on the board of the former in 1970 and as president of the latter from 1970 to 1972; she was on the board of the New York Society of Women Artists in 1980, and was also a member of Women in the Arts and the Hudson River Contemporary Artists. A small collection of documentary material is owned by the Archives of American Art. References: Jules Heller...

Italian Art Informel Painting Black, Grey, Red, Blue by Danilo Picchiotti, 1987
Located in Salzburg, AT
Fantastic large abstract informal painting with a poectic note in wonderful colors signed Danilo Picchiotti 1987. The original artist frame in red allows the artistic design to run into the frame or integrates the frame into the artwork Childhood and the French period Danilo Picchiotti was born in 1933. His childhood and youth are characterized by the restless search of an artistic expression for his own sensibility and perception, as well as his very strong sense of existence. This would eventually lead him to join an art club known as “I Pennelacci” (the Paintbrushes) in his hometown in Rome at the early age of 18. He then starts devoting himself exclusively and passionately to reading and painting. He moves to Paris in 1952. In Paris he explores the stimulating and innovativeenvironmentsrepresented by the local versions of Surrealism of the period. From that moment onwards, he allows his own existence to be overwhelmed by his art until he becomes his art’s main subject, firmly convinced that self-consciousness and stylistic research are closely linked. This immense labour will find the truest expression of his artistic and existential sensibility in Surrealism. From his early career to action painting. During the early 1970s, the artistic environment in Rome and his successful participation to several collective art exhibitions, especially with the “Pennellacci” club, leads him to his public debut and paves the way to a very important and busy period. Later on, after enormous intellectual labour, he approaches the gestural informal painting, also known as “Action Painting”. This art movement was mostly developed in the United States, and is also called Abstract Expressionism. The most celebrated artist of this movement is Jackson Pollock. In 1986 Danilo Picchiotti holds a number of exhibitions of works that are strongly influenced by this art movement (action painting). The latest works of the artist. In Europe, the French painter Jean Fautrier begins incorporating his paintings with plastic materials that burst out of the canvas, overcoming the boundary between two-dimensional images and plastic forms. This type of painting will be called “Matter Painting”; other painters will join this movement including Jean Dubuffet, Antoni Tápies and the Italian Alberto Burri. While some artists hide into the sign, others, including Picchiotti, emphasises the matter that identifies the work itself, by choosing any kind of material such as wood, fabric, glass, wall or even colour, which are arranged on the canvas, assuming their own physicality and are transformed, layer by layer, by using fire, water and other elements. Beginning from 2000, after several years of artistic inactivity due to health problems, Danilo Picchiotti, today more culturally open-minded than ever, returns to painting with determination, strength and energy giving birth to his new “GESTURAL MATTER” period. Major exhibitions and awards: a selection 1965 First Prize of the “Gatta d’oro” Award – Rome First Prize of the “Trevignano 1965” Award - Trevignano Art Exhibition at "Galleria Brandi" - Rome Art Exhibition at “Circolo Artistico” via Margutta – Rome Art Exhibition at “La Tozzella” Gallery – Avezzano First Prize of the “Riccio d’oro” Award, prize of Medaglia d’oro Award 1966 Art Exhibition at "La Saletta" Gallery- Frosinone Theatre and Painting exhibition at the "Piccolo Teatro" - Rome Figurative Art Exhibition at the "Piccolo Teatro" - Rome 18th Art Trade Show via Margutta – Rome International painting exhibition - Manziana 1967 International painting exhibition - Bracciano 1968 Exhibition at Geswind Villa at Meung sur Loire - France 1969 Art exhibition at the Hotel de Bordeaux Tours - France 1970 Art Exhibition at "Anfora" gallery - Paris Art Exhibition at "Hervè" gallery - Paris 1972 Art Exhibition at "Pencier" gallery - Paris Art Exhibition at "Bernier" gallery - Paris 1974 2nd prize of “IV edizione Cavalletto d'oro" Award - Florence 1975 Art Exhibition at "Galleria Facchetti” - Art Exhibition at "Daber" gallery - Paris 1977 Art Exibition at "Galerie Wolfang Gurlitt" - Munich 1978 Art Exhibition at "Galerie Ernest Fuchs...

Abstract Painting Beige-brown-orange by the Leipzig Painter W. Biedermann 1987
Located in Salzburg, AT
Abstract painting on paper work by Wolfgang E. Biedermann, Leipzig Westgermany 1987 Small, repetitive motifs, characters, ciphers and writings, inspired by Asian calligraphers were generously painted over in abstract. Technique: Mixed media on paper Signature: Lower right by hand W. E. Biedermann 87 Short Biography: Wolfgang E. Biedermann was born in 1940 in Hannover - dece. 2008 in Leipzig Already as a high school student Wolfgang E. Biedermann's artistic talent was recognized by Ursula Mattheuer-Neustädt. She promoted him to evening studies at the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) Leipzig. From 1961 Biedermann studied at the HGB in the specialist class for free graphics and painting with Gerhard Kurt Müller, completing his studies in 1967. Since 1968 Biedermann was active as a freelance artist in Leipzig. He undertook study trips to Poland, France and Indonesia, as well as to the USSR and the USA. From 1968 to 1991 he was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR and since 1996 a member of the Free Academy of Arts in Leipzig. The unique encounter with the German action artist Joseph Beuys had a great impact on Biedermann. The artistic work of Wolfgang E. Biedermann spanned from 1960 to 2008. His œuvre is characterized by the development of his own technique. In addition to drawings and sketches of the early work for study purposes he dealt over the years primarily with printing practices. He produced numerous abstract paintings and works on paper using color etching and silkscreen processes as well as multi-plate overprinting. Biedermann relied on different layering by means of various techniques of graphics and painting. He dealt extensively with overdrawing and overpainting his works. Repeating motifs are symbols, signs, ciphers and writings, which are based on Asian calligraphy. Biedermann dealt just as intensively with the content of philosophical writings by Peter Sloterdijk and with letters from the estate of Friedrich Schiller, which he transposed into the paintings. His color-intensive paintings reflect "inner landscapes". Klaus Werner coined this term as early as 1980 for the complete works of Wolfgang E. Biedermann. Since 1977 Wolfgang E. Biedermann presented his artworks at various exhibitions. On the occasion of his 50th birthday, the Lindenau Museum in Altenburg exhibited a comprehensive selection of 130 works in 1990. NordLB - Art, Hannover accompanied his further creative process for almost ten years with work locations in Berlin (Sony Center), Singapore, Zurich and Hamburg. At the EXPO 2000 in Hanover, twelve of his large-scale works were on display in the German pavilion. Parts of his œuvre have also been exhibited outside Germany in Tokyo, Paris, Damascus, Bilbao, Listovel, Mulhouse, Grenchen, Basel and Fredrikstad, among other places.
