Emanuel Glicen Romano was born in Rome, September 23, 1897.
His father Henryk Glicenstein was a sculptor and was living in Rome with his wife Helena (born Hirszenberg) when Emanuel was born. His father obtained Italian citizenship and adopted the name Enrico. Emanuel was brought up in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, England and Poland.
In 1926 Emanuel Glicenstein Romano and his father sailed for New York. They briefly visited Chicago. Romano's sister, Beatrice, and mother only joined them in New York years later.
Romano changed his name on his arrival to America and some have erroneously speculated that this was to avoid antisemitic discrimination. In truth, as the son of a highly-regarded artist, Romano changed his name to ensure that any success or recognition he would later attain, would be the result of nothing other than his own merit as an artist, and not on account of his father's fame.
In 1936 Romano was worked for the WPA Federal Art Project creating murals. ( there were many jewish artists active with in the WPA period. notably Chaim Gross, Ben Shahn, Isaac and Moses Soyer, Abraham Rattner and many others. During and immediately after World War II, Romano created a series of allegorical works depicting graphic holocaust images that were held closely by the family until after his passing. One of these works is now on permanent display in the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg Florida.
Emanuel's father died in 1942 in a car accident before they could realize their shared dream of visiting Israel.
In 1944 Romano, having completed his degree at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago, began teaching at the City College of New York.
Romano moved to Safed, Israel in 1953 and established an art museum in his father's memory, the Glicenstein Museum.

At first, Robert Reitzfeld's distinctive melange of Ab Ex. Pop, Op and other postwar painting styles appears to be a send-up of the source material. Among the 25 recent paintings and works on paper in this show, a number of pieces, including Minnie Mouse, Olive. Che. Marilyn and others, feature cartoons and familiar Pop-art iconography, Reitzfeld's versions often appropriating passages from Warhol and Lichtenstein. But Reitzfeld's images are very often fragmented, with roughly torn edges in the paper pieces and colorful abstract passages of paint in the canvases obscuring and sometimes rearly obliterating the subjects. Rather than a nihilistic gesture, however, his distortions may be viewed as a kind of archeology of recent art. They also reveal a rather personal relationship with specific works that have inspired the veteran New York artist over the years.
1961, I Was There (2007), for instance, Is a painting featuring Donald Duck in his blue-and-white sailor suit—a fragment of Lichtenstein's 1961 painting Look, Mickey!, partly painted over with layered patches of red and pink acrylic as well as a sprinkling of glitter. The title of Reitzfeld's piece alludes to his attendance at a 1961 opening at New York's Sidney Janis Gallery, where Lichtenstein showed this seminal Pop work.
Reitzfeld is at his best here in several relatively large (about 36 inches square) intricate hard-edge compositions, such as TBT 56 (Marriage), 2006, and T8T 63 (2007). The latter contains another Lichtenstein reference: a detail of the Whitney Museum's 1973 Still Life with Crystal Bowl set...

Guy Cambier (1923-2008) was born in Uccle-lez-Bruxelles, Belgium in 1923. He was a painter of Genre painting, scenes, figures, portraits and still life paintings.
At the age of nine years old, he lost the use of his legs caused by a tragic accident. He was self taught and studied the techniques and works of those artists he emulated, Corot and Watteau.
Cambier started to exhibit in 1942, first in Belgium and afterwards in France at the Cote d’Azur as well as in the United States and in Paris at the Salon des Peintres Temoins de leur Temps.
In 1957, he received the Parisian award, “Le Prix de la Jeune Peintre”.
He was part of the Post War School of Paris Ecole De Paris that included Andre Hambourg, Jean Carzou, Marcel Gromaire and Yolande Ardissone He moved to the South of France in 1950 and resided in Grasse, where he spent most of the rest of his life. He painted in the Barbizon style.

Franz Anton Coufal (Austrian, 1927 - 1999) Painter and sculptor known for figure painting, bronze sculpture, genre paintings and as a graphic artist.
After completing an apprenticeship as a locksmith, Franz Anton Coufal attended the Graphic Education and Research Institute in Vienna from 1947 to 1949 as a student of André Roder and from 1949 to 1953 took lessons from Ignaz Schönbrunner. From 1953 to 1959 he finally studied with Fritz Wotruba at the Academy of Fine Arts (diploma and master school award 1959).
Coufal then went on study trips to Germany and Italy and then settled in Vienna as a sculptor and graphic artist. His work bears the influence of Austrian Magic Realism and the artists Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Arik Erich Brauer and Ernst Fuchs. THis work also has Expressionist elements to it. He organized exhibitions in Vienna (from 1955), Paris (1962, 1970) and Brussels (1964) as well as in other Austrian cities. His most important works include the honorary grave for Leopold Figl in the central cemetery (1966). In 1979 he provided the design for the face of the silver 100 schilling coin "Festival and Congress House Bregenz", in 1980 he created the Lehár monument for the city park, and in 1987 he received the special prize in the "Danube Region Vienna" competition.

Jay Milder (born 1934) is an American artist and a figurative expressionist painter of the second generation New York School. Old Testament themes such as Jacob's Ladder and Noah’s Ark, and the Jewish mystical beliefs of the Kabbalah, are recurring themes in Milder’s paintings which are presented as archetypal images that recur in the basic karma, make-up and need of human nature. Internationally exhibited, Milder is included in the collections of many national and international museums.
He has been the subject of two, recent retrospectives in Brazil in 2007 at the National Museum Brasilia and, in 2006, at the Museum of Modern Art, in Rio de Janeiro. He is renowned in Sao Paulo, one of the major international centers for street and public art, as a seminal influence on graffiti artists. Jay Milder was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1934. His grandparents, who came from the Ukraine, were descendants of the Hasidic mystic, Rabbi Nachman. As he listened to family stories his interest in spiritualism and mysticism increased, and became an important influence on his philosophy of life and art. Later, when he arrived in New York, he was drawn to the Theosophical Society and the teaching of Helena Blavatsky.
In 1954 Milder visited Europe where he studied painting with André L’Hote, and sculpture with Ossip Zadkine. He spent much time studying at the Louvre Museum, and at the studio of Stanley Hayter. During his Paris years the paintings of the Jewish painter Chaim Soutine, primarily influenced him. Milder returned to the United States in 1956, and he began studying painting at the Chicago Art Institute. He exhibited with the Momentum Group, an alliance of artists who were particularly dedicated to the progression of figurative art and its global origins.
In 1957, Milder spent the summer in Mexico for a summer where he exhibited in Puebla. That year he received the Mexican Government’s Honor Award for artists.

Joseph James Akston was a Polish American sculptor, painter, known for surrealist abstract painting and Aubusson (for Les Ateliers Pinton Frères, tapisserie, Aubusson) tapestry artist. Born in Warsaw, Poland in 1898 he died in Palm Beach Florida in 1983. During the 1960s and '70s the entrepreneur-artist James Joseph Akston adopted a unique Surreal Expressionist style in order to present his private primordial universe and lampoon its denizens, a ribald cast of animal creatures with human foibles. A successful industrialist, he began his career with General Motors foreign operations and then started his own business.
Intermittently he studied painting, first with Jerry Farnsworth in North Truro (Mass.) and then with Jose Clemente Orozco in Mexico. In the early 1960s Akston became publisher-editor of a group of art publications which included The Magazine Arts. Initially an abstract expressionist, Akston had one-man exhibitions at the New York Convention Center and the Corcoran Museum in Washington. Since 2015 the record price for this artist at auction is $12,575 USD for Spheres Aux Triangles Aubusson Tapestry, sold at Bonhams New York in 2019.
He was a Graduate of Georgetown University. He sat on the board of the Norton Museum.

She also spent several years in Texas, where she attended the University of Houston, studied commercial art and became the Art Director at several advertising agencies. Yangchareon came to Los Angeles, California from Lampang, Thailand, Southeast Asia where he studied Fine Arts at the Arts & Crafts College (Poh Chang), Bangkok, Thailand and Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. In California he continued his studies at Woodbury University, receiving a degree in Advertising Design. He is a contemporary figurative realist artist. He painted the urban landscape of California, which have been exhibited in solo and group shows. His work is represented by prominent galleries nationally. Yangchareon spent much of his childhood at his father’s movie theater where he became fascinated with the world of American Westerns. The nostalgia for this idyllic film Americana can be garnered through his subject matter. Abandoned theaters, factories and businesses of an almost extinct era of architecture are carefully rendered in the soft morning light. Working from his own photography, shot during the early hours of the day, Yangchareon’s acrylic and oil paintings are largely devoid of human figures, but deeply imbued with their past presence. Recently, the artist has broadened his focus to include imagery of the city at night––rendering glistening rain-soaked sidewalks bathed in the artificial light of street lamps and movie marquees against an inky black sky. Yet, Yangchareon’s motivation remains the same; to find the hidden beauty in varying industrial landscapes and seeing splendor where most would argue it does not exist. Reminiscent of Edward Hopper, a sense of melancholy pervades his compositions in a quiet, detached manner. The influence of Richard Diebenkorn and Wayne Thiebaud can also be detected in the artist’s sense of color and in his interpretation of light. Ben Benn, a Russian-born American still-life and Post Impressionist landscape painter who was part of the first generation of artists in America to try to digest the lessons of Cubism Benn Benn was a pioneer American modernist whose independent style defied stylistic classification. Despite excursions into Cubism and Abstract Expressionist style, Benn “seems always to have been a ‘subject’ painter. Considering this, it is remarkable that he remained visible at all during the 50’s and early 60’s, when prejudice against the representational amounted nearly to a proscription of it.” Benn’s prominence in the art world over 6 decades was reaffirmed at a 90th birthday show at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington , D.C. in 1974.
Benn was born Benjamin Rosenberg in the town of Kamenets Podolsk in the Russian empire in 1884. This town was the regional capital of an area in what is today, SW Ukraine, and was historically known as Podolia. the Rosenberg family chose, along with thousands of others, to immigrate from Podolia to the United States in 1894 or 1899. “Between 1904 and 1908 Benn attended the National Academy of Design and he studied at the Arts Students League In New York City. He spent most of his career in New York City including memberships with the American Society of Painters and Sculptors, American Artists Congress and the Woodstock Artist Association. Academy curriculum stressed portraiture built up with broad, painterly brushstrokes, a technique that remained the foundation of Benn’s style. In his first group show, in 1913, he exhibited with Max Weber and Man Ray. By the mid teens his canvases were bolder in color and more decorative in style. Hovik Muradian was born in 1964 in Yerevan, Armenia, within the view of the biblical Mt. Ararat, in the land of the sun, mountains, rocks, and savanna grass, in the country with a fate similar to that of every small country controlled by a more powerful country, in the country with the history of struggle for independence. Back in 1964, Armenia was a part of the Soviet Union and was called the Armenian Socialist Republic.
After the tragic earthquake in 1988, Hovik went on a quest for a new life outside his homeland. He found it in the Czech Republic where he has been living since 1992.
He has a nice family and a studio close to his flat in one of the Prague suburbs where he paints, and he exhibits his paintings around the world. Yet, his dark eyes keep looking through the web of nostalgia, his blood is diluted with meditation, and his romantic heart searches for angular colors of brightness. But I may be totally wrong. I am just trying to find an alibi for my headline.
Hovik Muradian was raised in a family where his father, academic painter Shavarsh Muradian (1936), whose favorite style of painting was landscape, initiated Hovik’s artistic education (the School of Arts of Jakob Kojoian, and the College of Arts of Panos Terlemezian in Yerevan from 1976 to 1984). Cultural inspiration, music, theatre, literature etc. are probably the legacy of the school; we can find symbols of the mentioned arts both in his early and later paintings. However, what the painter soon left behind was the technique of paint applying. His impasto paintings quickly changed into delicately color and delimited areas. The delimitation of shapes is a typical element in Muradian’s paintings. Sometimes, the area is geometrically divided into right-angle shapes, other times the painter seems to use different arches to make them in an abstract grouping of matter. However, he never stops there. In his compositions, we can find a part of a figure, nude, musical instrument, or common item. His genre is figurative abstraction. Rationality that forces us to meditate can be found only in his later paintings. His canvases are full of technical artifacts symbolizing time, order, as well as mystery, a pursuit to learn, search, and ask questions. His paintings clearly show what kind of questions the author asks.
