Leo Matiz is considered one of the tenth most influential photographers of the 20th century. His work as a photojournalist led him to travel extensively around the world, meeting and making friends with some of the most relevant figures of the 20th century. Matiz was an artist who never waited for beauty to come looking for him. He looked for her with his camera, wherever she was, whether it was the face of a child lost on a city street, a landscape, architectural wonders or the now famous portraits of the legendary artist Frida Kahlo.

She has also been a subject for them; as she puts it, “we are professional posers.” Recently, however, she has worked to paint portraits of those whose gaze is more internal—monks and nomads in Tibet, aboriginal people in Taiwan—creating large bodies of portraits that investigate the limits of the genre. She returned, with her daughter, to Hockney’s studio in 2014, not only to sit for him but to paint him once again. Her practice involves the long sittings and intense looking required of traditional portrait-making.

For many years, Brenda Zlamany has painted portraits of other artists, including Chuck Close, Alex Katz, and David Hockney. She has also been a subject for them; as she puts it, “we are professional posers.” Recently, however, she has worked to paint portraits of those whose gaze is more internal—monks and nomads in Tibet, aboriginal people in Taiwan—creating large bodies of portraits that investigate the limits of the genre. She returned, with her daughter, to Hockney’s studio in 2014, not only to sit for him but to paint him once again. Her practice involves the long sittings and intense looking required of traditional portrait-making.
Muse X Editions. An (now defunct) LA based innovative publisher of limited-edition prints, Muse X has launched its first group of prints and is just beginning to make itself known to artists, curators, dealers and collectors. From the color saturated 1980's. "A course in miracles"" The title, taken from the 1976 book on New Age spiritual guidance encourages speculation about each element in this still life. The amount of roses--three--is a significant number in many religions and mythologies. Besides Jesus and Albert Einstein, Flack included the silent mystic Hindu philanthropist Shree Krishnaji, also known as Baba. Flack used the detail of his face with the roses, hovering above the ocean, in her monumental painting, Baba. Following an illness, she turned to mysticism, framing Christian and Hindu images with Jewish ones in A Course of Miracles of 1983: On the “west” side, a photograph of Albert Einstein and a European Jewish candlestick...
