Denver-based artist Jim Beckner paints like a jazz musician. The blues bop, the oranges swing, and the yellows vibrate. Drawn to the beat of the city, the artist creates expressionistic urban landscapes that show his unabashed love of color. More than anything, his paintings dance with their own energy, and an urban rhythm emanates from his canvases.
Beckner was born and raised in Lakewood, CO, a suburb of Denver. Art played an integral role in the family. “My dad was—and still is—a watercolor artist,” he explains. “He does a lot of Colorado landscapes, very detailed, specific, realistic artwork.” Beckner remembers drawing and coloring at every opportunity when he was a child. “Both of my parents recognized that it was something I enjoyed,” he recalls. “I often drew to entertain those around me.”
Occasionally, the Beckner family would drive into downtown Denver to eat out at a restaurant. “I always thought the city was an exciting place,” notes the artist. “It had a certain edginess about it.” Those early excursions, and the urban sensibility they fostered in the impressionable youth, would have a profound effect on his burgeoning talent.
Encouraged by his parents, Beckner took art classes in junior high school. “I began to realize that I had some skill at drawing,” he says, “that I could see something and then re-create it.” In high school his art teacher was artist Ray Knaub...

Her paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Gadsen Museum of Art, the Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art and the Great Plains Art Museum as well as in countless private collections. In the fall 2023 she will teach a workshop at a castle in France, where artists will stay and enjoy the southern French food and scenes.
I paint because it’s the best way I know to communicate, study, and observe creative work that’s how Texas painter V…. Vaughan (the first initial stands for Virginia) describes her drive to create fine art. “It’s a calling,” she says of her life’s work, which has taken several twists and turns but has, nevertheless, led her down the path toward fulfillment.
A lifelong Texan, Vaughan grew up in the Austin area and today makes her home in Round Rock, a suburb of the capital city. As a child, she exhibited a love of making art and played the role of the creative one among the seven children in her family, eventually working for several of her siblings as a sign painter and designer. Her parents forever encouraged her to appreciate and mine her passion, instilling in her that it was not simply a passing fancy, but an innate gift. “It was always conveyed to me that this was a God-given talent,” she says. Somehow that made me feel like it was something I was supposed to do. It gave me permission to pursue it.
Vaughan attended college on an athletic scholarship, though she filled her schedule with art classes and subsequently secured an internship at an advertising agency. That introduction to the corporate world set her off in a new direction—she left school to parlay the summer job into a full-time position. She continued to work as a commercial artist for many years after that, winning several prestigious ADDY Awards and working on high-profile accounts for Samsung, the Lady Bird Johnson...

As the first significant project of Memorial Park Conservancy's 10-year plan, Clay Family Eastern Glades is another beautiful location for Houstonians to enjoy nature at its finest. Inspired by the original 1930s master plan by landscape architects Hare & Hare, Memorial Park's Eastern Glades section adds nearly 100 acres of open space for recreation, relaxation or quiet reflection.
Eleanor McCarthy uses acrylic paints on canvas to create the soothing colors in her new contemporary paintings that were just painted in 2024. Every client sees a different image in her new series of paintings being produced in 2024.
The Clay Family Eastern Glades is named after the family of third- and fourth-generation Houstonians Emily and Robert Clay, who donated $10 million toward the park's capital campaign in 2018. If you've never visited or it's been a while, keep reading to learn more about this 100-acre open space located in one of Houston's best green spaces—complete with natural habitats and Hines Lake.

Eleanor McCarthy is inspired by the scenery of Texas, Southwestern Colorado, and Europe. Eleanor has recently begun to pursue non-representational painting and has enjoyed exploring the process of abstraction in creating new works of art. She has added acrylic painting and mixed media application to her artworks.
Eleanor graduated from Tulane University with a BA in Sociology and from Southern Methodist University School of Law with a JD.
Eleanor began to pursue painting after her children went to college. Artist Biography: Clark V. Fox was born in Austin, TX, in 1946. His father in the Army Air Forces, Clark spent the first five years of his life in Honolulu before the family moved to several cities throughout Texas, including Galveston, Houston, Corpus Christi, Hereford and Amarillo. In 1960 just before Clark entered high school, the family settled in Washington, D.C. Clark attended high school in Alexandria, Virginia, a period during which he had a studio with fellow classmates, David Lynch and Jack Fisk. Clark studied with Japanese art master Unichi Hiratsuka at the Japan-American Society of Washington, D.C. (1964-1965). Clark spent his first year of college at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York (1965-66) with part-time stints at Andy Warhol’s “The Factory” studio, after which he returned to D.C., where he received his BFA in 1969 from the Corcoran School of Art.
