Jogal, Tempera on Canvas, Yellow, Red, Blue by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
By Bratin Khan
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Bratin Khan - Jogal Tempera on Canvas, 30 x 24 inches, 2018 The anecdotes and narratives of Krishna's life are generally titled as Krishna Leela. He is a central character in the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana and the Bhagavad Gita, and is mentioned in many Hindu philosophical, theological, and mythological texts. They portray him in various perspectives: a god-child, a prankster, a model lover, a divine hero, and as the universal supreme being. His iconography reflects these legends, and shows him in different stages of his life, such as an infant eating butter, a young boy playing a flute, a young man with Radha or surrounded by women devotees, or a friendly charioteer giving counsel to Arjuna. He is sometimes accompanied by cows or a calf, which symbolise the divine herdsman Govinda. Alternatively, he is shown as a romantic and seductive man with the gopis (milkmaids), often making music or playing pranks. Style : Marked for the refined handling of line work and palette, his painterly compositions, reflect influences of folk art and Bengal School. The renderings are poetic and the narratives mythical, folklore-inspired or religious. His curvaceous and languid figures, often accompanied by a surrounding halo, are set amidst a natural habitat. The imagery features Buddha, Krishna, other legendry icons as well as pretty damsels and lotus flowers. Figures dominate the whole thinking process of his paintings with different subjects such as mermaids, musicians (Classical Musicians , Rajasthani Folk Singers and Baul Singers) and mythological figures appearing in his works. He was deeply influenced by the life Sri Aurobindo and thus enlightened beings. Such as Buddha, Jesus and Krishna are also a recurring theme in his Golden Man series. His focus on detail and remarkable skill over the line make his style unique. He uses a traditional method of tempera painting which goes back to the Indian miniature though the material he uses is totally contemporary. Knowledge of the wash technique further enables him to create a soft, twilight effect in his paintings. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1969, West Bengal. Education : 1993 Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting), Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. Selected Solo Exhibitions : 2000 - Classic Source, Mumbai. 1999 - Rightlines Art Gallery, Bangalore. 1993 - Grindlays Bank Gallery, Kolkata. Selected Group Exhibitions : 2007 - ‘A Brush with Durga’ ,Gallery Kolkata, Kolkata. 2002 - 'Gems of Bengal Art...

In the Village, Gouache on Paper, Pink & Red color by Gobardhan Ash "In Stock"
By Gobardhan Ash
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Gobardhan Ash - Untitled - Gouache on Paper 10 x 15 inches (unframed size) Style : Regarded as a pioneer of modern Indian art, Ash’s contribution at the time when India witnessed the advent of Western modernism is significant and colossal. His work was exploratory, visionary and inspiring. He printed with bold courage and a free spirit, never yielding to the rules set by official art. He rejected the preconceived notions of how an artist ought to render his subjects and inevitably rebelled against the academic rules “ If we look at nature in the open, we do not see individual objects each with its own colors but rather a bright medley of tints which blend in our eyes, in our minds.” – Gobardhan Ash (The Statesman, April 24, 1994). His verbal imagery alluded to what was real and relevant in India yet transcended to communicate a deeper, universal message about the human spirit. Disillusioned with the limits and constraints he faced, Ash withdrew into his private introspective world to explore his own mode of artistic expression. And although it was the convention then to paint divinities or exotic female figures on their way to the temple, Ash embarked on a new approach altogether to paint farmers toiling in the fields, workers engaged in intense labor to earn their living, thereby setting a new trend of socio-realistic art in India. In 1945, Ash was brought into the public eye when the progressive writers Association discovered his series of paintings on the Bengal famine. The paintings depict, if not document, the ravages of the 1943 catastrophe. In juxtaposition to the famine series, his impressionist and post impressionist gouaches during the late 40s come as an interesting antithesis. Colors, rich and vibrant, come alive in a pulsating tone to dominate the entire painting. Ash never subscribed to a stringent artistic form or technique. Rather, his works from the 80s display yet another intriguing and jarringly different style in his treatment of portraiture. His colors, with the exception of the apparent outlines, are reduced to smudges and smears so that the painting appear to originate from stained canvas. His subjects, spectral figures that engage and draw us within their profound state of despair and helplessness. To characterize the life works of Gobardhan Ash is to recognize the complexity and spontaneity of his ideas and the enormous richness of his style. An artist who devoted his entire life to art, his paintings have transited and evolved from monochromatic sketches and landscape to portraiture; from naturalistic real-life depictions to abstract expressionism. Whatever the genre style-Ash has demonstrated an eloquent mastery over the diverse style, techniques and medias employed, as evident in the vast retrospective collection. His paintings are conceptual and purposeful, displaying a unique individuality. His art expounds a frank desire to convey the value of uncompromising artistic sincerity. Gobardhan Ash remains today a prolific artist of his time. About the Artist & his works : Born : Regarded as a pioneer of modern Indian art, Gobardhan Ash (1907-1996) was born at the village of Begampur in Hoogly district of West Bengal.. Family : His father was Haricharan Ash and mother Gouri Devi. He spent all his life in this village and died here in 1996 at the matured age...

Feroz Khan - Untitled Acrylic on Canvas, 36 x 48 inches About Artist : Mohammad Feroz Khan was born in 1978 and brought up in Delhi. He have not undergone any formal training in Art but gained experience first from his Father Late Mohd Ibrahim Khan, a Banner Painter. Subsequently, under the able tutelage of renowned Artist Late Manjit Bawa (Guruji - his Mentor in Art) he studied and learned Art for 14 years. Bawa took much care to train him to use brush and pastels on a variety of subjects, also guided him to savor the beauty and nuances of Texture. Then, as an initial step, his Guru guided him through a maze of depictable visuals scattered over the all too familiar places of Delhi. He asked him to draw inspiration from real life. Deferential to my master’s academic style of figuration, he soon convinced his guru of deft brushmanship and ability to create naturalistic human and animal forms, avoiding explicit linear delineation, while projecting solid masses. He chose to see the ordinary things and scenes that make up for our everyday life. He look at the little details of a tailor working on a manual sewing machine or a street-side vendor selling a cool drink on a hot summer day or rickshaw pullers or beggars and various other street vendors – denizens of the city’s poorest quarters. It is the sheer simplicity of each of these activities that appeals him and is reflected through his Canvas. Woman Face with Braid Dry Pastel on Paper by Artist Jogen Chowdhury "In Stock
By Jogen Chowdhury
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Jogen Chowdhury Woman Face with Braid, Dry Pastel on Paper 10 x 6.3 inches , 2022 ( this is the unframed size ) The work will be shipped inclusive of framing. Signed in Bengali Style : He has immense contribution in inspiring young artists of India. Jogen Chowdhury had developed his individual style after his return from Paris. His most famous paintings are in ink, watercolor and pastel. He has painted in oil medium as well. In Chowdhury’s more recent works the sensory experiences of cloth, bolsters, sofas and the human body are cross-projected to produce an uncanny world of tran-substantiated tumescence and flaccidness. Jogen Chowdhury has been widely acknowledged to be, the master of the unbroken line. Like Léger, Chowdhury has been stirred by the linear Kalighat pat tradition, but his lines are emotive and used to express and suggest the character of a person. This is done by, distorting the form without breaking the line and in the world of young, contemporary art; distortion has been Jogen Chowdhury’s most significant impact. Perhaps, because of this, a common observation of his work is that his “people” are caricatures. The person feels familiar to the viewer but it is far more individualised – the face is imaginary but the psyche or characteristics are real. The power and beauty of his technique and line is this play between the known and unknown. In Jogen Chowdhury’s work, the figure is always in the foreground, it is primary, it conveys everything. He uses colour to give volume to his figures and the fluidity of his lines bring a sensual aspect to his forms. About the Artist and his work : Born : Born 1939 in Daharpara Village, Faridpur, Bangladesh. Jogen Chowdhury is an eminent Indian painter and considered an important painter of 21st century India. Family Background : His father Pramatnath Chowdhury was a Brahmin zamindar. Both his parents took interest in art, Jogen Chowdhury’s father Pramatnath Chowdhury painted several mythological scenes from the village theatres and also sculpted various Hindu icons. Whereas his mother was an expert in Alpana drawings. 1939-47 Jogen Chowdhury lived in a village atmosphere. And after partition in 1948, the whole family shifted. Till 1951 the whole family stayed at the police department quarter of his uncle, where on the walls Jogen Chowdhury painted his first painting, 1962 Jogen Chowdhury was employed as Designer in the Handloom Board. Mother & Child, Figurative, Acrylic on Canvas by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Feroz Khan - Untitled Acrylic on Canvas, 55 x 42 inches About Artist : Mohammad Feroz Khan was born in 1978 and brought up in Delhi. Kolkata Street, Acrylic on Canvas by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"
By Dilip Chaudhury
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Dilip Chaudhury - Kolkata Street - 30 x 40 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on canvas Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style : Dilip Chaudhury's works depict the Bengali countryside and his hometown Kolkata bathed in the monsoon rains. His black and white works are ever popular though of late he has been dabbling in colour. Dilip Chaudhury has been painting various scenes from everyday life of Calcutta & sometimes Banaras, in watercolour. From ancient monuments, streets & ghats, to a rickshaw puller in action, he is captured it all, beautifully. To somebody who has even a remote connection with Calcutta, he manages to bring a wave of nostalgia, as he symbolizes the character of the city of joy in his work. Like a true artist who has not been afraid of trying his hand at almost every subject and medium under the sun, Dilip has metamorphosed into a sought – after artist with a niche skill of creating above all, subjects of abundant beauty and character with a strong sense of perspective. A touch of red in his paintings symbolises optimism. Dilip has executed truly riveting canvasses, each of which has a unique story to narrate. They are not flat but have grandeur, movement, people and therefore, life infused into them. Sometimes Dilip uses his imagination to highlight the simple rickshaw puller of Kolkata. He creates stylistic compositions from unusual angles, which succeed in enthralling the viewer. About the Artist & his works : Born : Kolkata, West Bengal. Educational Qualifications : 1986 : Fine Arts Graduate from Indian Art College, Kolkata, 1st Class First with gold medal Art Appreciation Course from Information Centre, Kolkata, West Bengal. Still Life, Watercolor on Imported Paper by Contemporary Indian Artist'In Stock'
By Saikat Maity
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Saikat Maity - Still Life - 22 x 27 inches (Unframed Size) Watercolour on Imported Paper Saikat uses the ‘wash’, ‘glaze’ and ‘wet in wet’ methods of application to produce a huge variety of striking works. The artist has selected the iconic landmark of Kolkata city, during the peak of the British Empire in India. This ethereal scene with the Heritage Building and motor cab is captivating and encapsulates the character of the heritage city with drama and poise. The watercolor artist has avoided excessive detailing and by highlighting just the key features of a Heritage Building & Old Kolkata Streets with crumbling structures, results in a fresh, inviting composition. Style : Saikat does his painting in stages, starting with large, vague color areas established on wet paper, then refines the image through a sequence of washes and glazes, making the works as durable as oils or acrylics. The pigments are held by arabic gum with additives like glycerine and solvents that give the medium durability. Watercolors appear more vivid than acrylics or oils because the pigments are laid down in a more pure form with fewer fillers obscuring the pigment colors. Multiple layers of watercolor thus achieve a very luminous effect. Water being an active and complex partner in the watercolor painting process, it changes the outlines and appearance of the paint as it dries. Saikat has mastered the difficult art of anticipating and leveraging the behavior of water, rather than attempting to control it. Saikat uses the ‘wash’, ‘glaze’ and ‘wet in wet’ methods of application to produce a huge variety of striking works, definitely worth collecting. In my watercolour paintings, the beauty lies in the freshness of colours, their transparency and purity along with a slightly unfinished look resulting in a more natural effect. My watercolours try infusing life in common place objects and making them look spectacularly real. About the Artist & his art works : Born : 1981. Education : 2007 : B.V.A (Drawing & Painting ) from Indian College of Art & Draftsmanship in Kolkata with 1st Class. Group Shows : Saikat has exhibited his paintings in group shows across Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai. Awards & Recognition : 2007 - Best Water...
