Wings 2021, Acrylic, Charcoal, Canvas by Modern Artist Shuvaprasanna "In Stock"
By Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya - Wings 2021 - 60 x 30 inches (unframed size) Acrylic and Charcoal on Canvas , 2021 One of the most popular series of the Master Artist, The Golden Flute is the artists more romantic renedition of Art. The iconic figures of Krishna, Radha, and Ganesha that found lyrical expression in the Icons series are modern representations and sophisticated idealizations of the same images in the popular media. Krishna is a cosmic musician, and the tune he creates by playing his transcendental flute is embodied with cosmic energy. When Krishna is depicted as being between the age of 5 and 8, it is always with his flute. Therefore, during this period, he is aptly called Murlidhara (murali means “flute,” and dhara means “hold”), signifying the one who holds the flute. He is never without it, whether he is with his mother, on the grazing grounds with his herd of cows, among his cowherd companions or roaming around on the Jamuna banks. Gopis lose their selves in this tune. For them, music becomes the voice of love, which is too passionate and secretive. Style : The city of Kolkata has always figured prominently in his work. His themes come from his personal interactions with its urban milieu - its sickness and sordidness, its violence and vulnerability and all that compounds its existential agony. Shuvaprasanna has depicted varying moods of the city and its people, its places, and all its facets that make the city distinctive. He doesn't merely portray reality as 'matter of fact' and his presentation of reality often has dream-like elements in it. In terms of technique, Shuvaprasanna boasts a precise, finely executed style that yields an unmistakable visual intensity. He works comfortably in an assortment of media, including oil on canvas, charcoal, and mixed media. About the Artist and his work : Born : In Calcutta, 1947. Education : Graduated from Indian College of Art (R.B. University, Calcutta) in 1969. Exhibitions : Shuvaprasanna has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Tao Art Gallery and at the Chawla Art Gallery, Square One Mall. Several works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'ABODE' sold at Waddington's 'Fine Prints & Photography Auction' in 2014. There have been many articles about Shuvaprasanna, including 'An exclusive edifice' written by Kunal Ray for The Hindu in 2014. Selected Solo Exhibitions : 2011 - Shuvaprasanna: Recent Works, CIMA, Centre of International Modern Art, India, Kolkata 2010 - Summer Show 2010, CIMA, Centre of International Modern Art, India, Kolkata 2007 - ‘Madhura: The Golden Flute’, organized by Indian Contemporary at Visual Arts Centre, Hong Kong 2006 - ‘The Divine Flute’, Aicon Gallery, USA 2002 - ‘Icons and Illusions’, Gallery ArtsIndia, New York 1998 - ‘An Appreciation of Ted Hughes’, Exhibition of Crow Paintings...

Telengana Pandit, Acrylic on Canvas by Modern Artist Thota Vaikuntam "In Stock"
By Thota Vaikuntam
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Thota Vaikuntam - Telengana Pandit Acrylic on Canvas, 23 x 17.75 inches Thota Vaikuntam is one of the Greatest Artist from the Indian Sub-contitent. He is preoccupied with portraying the men and woman from his region. Thota Vaikuntam (born 1942) is an Indian Modern painter. His paintings capture simple lifestyle of villagers like the paddy fields, toddy pots on shoulders of men, the household chores, temple rituals etc. His drawings range from stark charcoal on paper, transparent washes and pencil drawings. Vaikuntam paints colorful and elaborately dressed Telangana region men and seductive women. His muse is the sensuous and voluptuous women of Telangana with their omnipresent vermilion bindis, draped in colourful sarees that highlight their dusky skin. The stylisation of a painting are a perfect foil to Indian classical dance as the figures seem to dance, as if following their creator in a statuesque movement, reminiscent of temple friezes. He uses the brightest of reds and yellows. The simple women become larger than life as they fill the small format of his paintings draped in bright Sircilla saris. "I like using rich primary colours, which give a sense of character and depth to my paintings. Like reds and saffron and even orange, because these are essentially Indian colours. I don't like using colours that are mix of two, because they are not natural, they don't exist in surroundings around us, in our everyday life. - T. Vaikuntam” Style : Men and women of his village are often the central characters of his work. The obsession can be traced back to his childhood, when he used to be fascinated by the male artists who used to impersonate female characters in the travelling theatre groups that performed in his village. He admits finding the women of his village very sensuous and that he only attempts to capture their vibrancy. Vaikuntam’s art has a sense of strength to it, a power that emanates from the paint or charcoal that he applies to the surface, from his controlled lines, and from the fine strokes that he executes. He generally uses only primary colours, as he believes that composite colours do not exist in nature and are therefore, unnatural. About the Artist : Born : 1942 in Boorugupali, Andhra Pradesh. Education : 1970 - T. Vaikuntam completed a Diploma in Painting at the College of Fine Arts and Architecture, Hyderabad. 1972 - Painting and Printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda. Solo Exhibition : 1973 - He held his first solo exhibition at the Kala Bhavan in Hyderabad and since then has had regular shows...

Risk The Time, Acrylic on Canvas by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"
By Birendra Pani
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Birendra Pani - Risk The Time - 66 x 42 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas , 2009 ** Will be delivered in rolled form. Should you want the work in ready to hand condition please contact gallery for freight calculation. In this series of works - “Boy - Dancer”, Gallery Kolkata revisits the artists very popular and well lauded ‘Boy Dancer’ suite of paintings on the plight of traditional Gopitua dancers from his native land, Odisha. The boy dancers who perform a devotional dance ritual are quickly declining in today’s cosmopolitan world. Pani entwines his empathy for the dying art with an opinion on our post-Modern era. In that respect, Pani does not try to create nostalgia for the decline in the taste for the dancers, instead he problematizes the issue by bringing in a dispassionate view of the issue. The ten canvases on display in this exhibition, features the Gopitua dancers in different situations. The canvases are a hyper-real portrait, far & close shots of a Gopitua dancers with liquid innocent eyes and a small smile playing upon his lips as he confronts the viewer. The blade is a recurring motif in Pani’s work and it has multiple functions and meanings. In this instance its meaning is rather clear — one where modernity eclipses tradition. Style : His fresh, perspective and contemporary canvases have loud and vivid images and use colors like green and shocking pink unashamedly. Pani says his works are preoccupied with exploring contemporary materials, culture and current lives of people, the negligence of local places, their culture, history, memory and their identity in present times. Further he feels the consumerist attitude has penetrated deep into the human psyche. Human beings are being consumed by the commodity rather than them consuming it. In his works, Pani explore the struggles, contradictions, dichotomies and critical reflections of the embodied selves with changes in value, knowledge and culture in our present society. “I have extensively used body parts like brain, heart and other organs, and everyday objects like capsule, syringe, blade etc to create a new visual language. Deriving from life experiences, my idea is to create a new vision by the juxtaposition of the above experience with the rich legacy, diverse visual culture and sensibility of the vast tradition of Odisha’s miniatures and Pata paintings, stone carvings, monumental visuals of temples and dance forms like Gopitua dance and Chhau-dance in Odisha.” Pani, thus attempts to create a new phenomenology and the reinvention of ‘self’ in a globalized and yet very localized world. About the Artist and his work : BORN : 1969, Bhadrak, Odisha, India. FINE ARTS EDUCATION : 1997-1999 MFA – (First class with Distinction) Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda. 1991-1997 BFA - Kala Bhavan, Viswa Bharati University, Shantiniketan, West Bengal. 1987-1990 2nd world “Studio for Fine Arts”, Bhadrak, Odisha. Re Vision, Acrylic on Canvas by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"
By Birendra Pani

Birendra Pani - Re Vision - 66 x 42 inches (unframed size) Acrylic on Canvas , 2010 ** Will be delivered in rolled form.
