About the Item

Samir Sarkar - Untitled - 13.5 x 10.5 inches (unframed size) Mixed Media on Paper. Style : He says, “All my paintings have people wearing some headgear that has a face painted on them. This depicts the double-faced nature of people. Like we see in most profession where one wears uniform, like a policeman, a nurse, an army personnel or the Pope. One wears headgear to go with it as well. To me it is the depiction of the fact that we always wear a face that is different from the real one we have. It is like a face we have to put up to suit the personality we want to project which is always different from the real one.” For the past 25 years, acrylic color has been the main medium for his paintings. After doing the line drawing on paper or canvas, a layer of acrylic is used like tempera on it. Then slowly the subjects and people are given shape using more layers of color. Since I use fast colour, it gives a definite brightness to the figures. My figures have a definite inspiration from Egyptian paintings, thus the figures are drawn in the same form, the cloths that they wear have long lines making them look taller and in a way Egyptian. Most of my paintings are of 42½X48½ size which takes about 100 hours. His paintings, in a way are people he lives with. They give him inspiration to produce more, to experiment more and thus to create his own world with them. About the Artist & his works : Born : 1969 in Agra. Pradosh Swain - Agreement with Mother-III – 8.2 x 11.5 inches (unframed size) Mixed Media on a INR 100 Court Paper ( used to make a legal agreement ) Inclusive of shipment in a roll form Style : Pradosh’s works can be described as psychic automatism in its pure state. His works are expressive and his palette vibrant and gorgeous. Nature is the frequent imagery that we see in his paintings. Sometimes his imagery is outlandish, perplexing and uncanny as it is meant to shake the viewer and make them to think beyond the theories which they have guarded themselves with. Lot of elements that we see in pradosh’s paintings also come from his childhood days in Odisha. like the cock, kite or the bioscope. As a young boy also he used to enjoy nature study and it became his daily routine to go and sit amongst trees and birds and observe them very closely, which made him gain mastery over water colour medium. Pradosh’s paintings have a surrealistic quality, the imagery is dreamy and mystical and rendering is such as if there is some kind of romance and magic happening amongst the colours in his palette. His paintings are the result of brilliant culminations of feelings and things that are between imagination and reality. They reflect his genuine concern about issues he feels for. He emphasizes on the power of imagination and believes that revelation could be found anywhere….on the streets and in everyday life. Through his paintings artist depicts the notion that how our high pace life is making all of us loose that contact from the nature or even with ourselves. • Christ, Charcoal & Pastel on Canvas, Black by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
    By Bratin Khan
    Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Bratin Khan - Christ Charcoal & Pastel on Canvas, 30 x 24 inches, 2009 The anecdotes and narratives of Krishna's life are generally titled as Krishna Leela. He is a central character in the Mahabharata, the Bhagavata Purana and the Bhagavad Gita, and is mentioned in many Hindu philosophical, theological, and mythological texts. They portray him in various perspectives: a god-child, a prankster, a model lover, a divine hero, and as the universal supreme being. His iconography reflects these legends, and shows him in different stages of his life, such as an infant eating butter, a young boy playing a flute, a young man with Radha or surrounded by women devotees, or a friendly charioteer giving counsel to Arjuna. He is sometimes accompanied by cows or a calf, which symbolise the divine herdsman Govinda. Alternatively, he is shown as a romantic and seductive man with the gopis (milkmaids), often making music or playing pranks. Style : Marked for the refined handling of line work and palette, his painterly compositions, reflect influences of folk art and Bengal School. The renderings are poetic and the narratives mythical, folklore-inspired or religious. His curvaceous and languid figures, often accompanied by a surrounding halo, are set amidst a natural habitat. The imagery features Buddha, Krishna, other legendry icons as well as pretty damsels and lotus flowers. Figures dominate the whole thinking process of his paintings with different subjects such as mermaids, musicians (Classical Musicians , Rajasthani Folk Singers and Baul Singers) and mythological figures appearing in his works. He was deeply influenced by the life Sri Aurobindo and thus enlightened beings. Such as Buddha, Jesus and Krishna are also a recurring theme in his Golden Man series. His focus on detail and remarkable skill over the line make his style unique. He uses a traditional method of tempera painting which goes back to the Indian miniature though the material he uses is totally contemporary. Knowledge of the wash technique further enables him to create a soft, twilight effect in his paintings. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1969, West Bengal. • Illusion Watch, Pen & Ink on Paper, Black by Modern Indian Artist “In Stock”
    By Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya
    Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya - Untitled - (unframed size) Pen & Ink on Paper , 11 x 8 inches , 2009 (Delivered) One of the most popular series of the Master Artist, The Golden Flute is the artists more romantic renedition of Art. The iconic figures of Krishna, Radha, and Ganesha that found lyrical expression in the Icons series are modern representations and sophisticated idealizations of the same images in the popular media. Krishna is a cosmic musician, and the tune he creates by playing his transcendental flute is embodied with cosmic energy. When Krishna is depicted as being between the age of 5 and 8, it is always with his flute. Therefore, during this period, he is aptly called Murlidhara (murali means “flute,” and dhara means “hold”), signifying the one who holds the flute. He is never without it, whether he is with his mother, on the grazing grounds with his herd of cows, among his cowherd companions or roaming around on the Jamuna banks. Gopis lose their selves in this tune. For them, music becomes the voice of love, which is too passionate and secretive. Style : The city of Kolkata has always figured prominently in his work. His themes come from his personal interactions with its urban milieu - its sickness and sordidness, its violence and vulnerability and all that compounds its existential agony. Shuvaprasanna has depicted varying moods of the city and its people, its places, and all its facets that make the city distinctive. He doesn't merely portray reality as 'matter of fact' and his presentation of reality often has dream-like elements in it. In terms of technique, Shuvaprasanna boasts a precise, finely executed style that yields an unmistakable visual intensity. He works comfortably in an assortment of media, including oil on canvas, charcoal, and mixed media. About the Artist and his work : Born : In Calcutta, 1947. Education : Graduated from Indian College of Art (R.B. University, Calcutta) in 1969. Exhibitions : Shuvaprasanna has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Tao Art Gallery and at the Chawla Art Gallery, Square One Mall. Several works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'ABODE' sold at Waddington's 'Fine Prints & Photography Auction' in 2014. There have been many articles about Shuvaprasanna, including 'An exclusive edifice' written by Kunal Ray for The Hindu in 2014. • Sacred-Heart - large, fashion, female, abstract, graffiti, resin, acrylic, panel
    By Peter Hoffer
    Located in Bloomfield, ON
Forgive Us Our Sins, Sacre-Coeur (Sacred-Heart in English) depicts a high fashion model on the Paris runway. St. Genevieve, patron saint of Paris, is scrawled on the canvas, graffiti style. Created in three vertical panels that reference the classic style of altar pieces, it is elevated by the lower panel. The prettiness of the model is in contrast to the grittiness of spray paint that is superimposed on the work. This lower panel has been treated with a high gloss resin, in contrast to the matte finish of the rest of the work. Scrawled in the lower left portion of the painting, the text reads Pardonne nos péchés, or forgive us our sins. This monumental work is rendered in realism, but ultimately expressed as a defaced modern commodity. The spray painted graffiti is transformed into a series of balloon like images, festive till one realizes they came from a paint gun...
