April Greiman is an American designer widely recognized as one of the first designers to embrace computer technology as a design tool. Greiman is also credited, along with early collaborator, the late artist Jayme Odgers, with helping to import the European New Wave design style to the US during the late 70s and early 80s."
The Olympic Committee commissioned 15 nationally known artists, including April Greiman and Jayme Odgers to create unique designs to promote the event. Sir Peter Blake is one of the most successful British Pop artists from the fabulous 1960s, and his work can be found in major museums and collections worldwide. He is best known for creating the sleeve design of the Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was with the Young Contemporaries exhibition of 1961, where he exhibited alongside David Hockney and R.B. Kitaj, that Blake rose to prominence. Blake created this limited edition print, a tribute to the Art Car, exclusively for the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair 2013. The work sold out completely in less than 15 minutes. Howard Hodgkin based this print on a trip he took to visit his good friend and fellow Petersburg Press collaborator David Hockney in Los Angeles. The mid-eighties saw new levels of abstraction in Hodgkin’s work, building exuberantly off the ambiguous spaces of his earlier work. The artist used six colors of paint, producing a unique depth and texture to each print in this edition.
Howard Hodgkin was introduced to the etching technique used in DH in Hollywood at Petersburg Press, where he was a long-time collaborator. Soft-ground etching allowed him to work fluidly and spontaneously, giving his prints the characteristic black brushstrokes seen in this print.

This surreal etching portrait of Dorian Gray by Jim Dine in blue ink features the literary protagonist dressed in a white suit. His face is obscured by a mass of hair, tangles of which seem to grow from the sleeves, pant legs, and from beneath the jacket. Dine's notes are written on the image: at his feet reading "WHITE BOOTS" and "White Vinyl Suit" alongside the jacket. On the left edge of the image handwritten text reads "DORIAN GRAY AT OPIUM DEN". In Oscar Wilde's novel Dorian Gray keeps opium in an ornate box in his home, and frequents sites of consumption on the East side of London: “There were opium dens where one could buy oblivion, dens of horror where the memory of old sins could be destroyed by the madness of sins that were new”. An opium den is where Sybil's brother James discovers Dorian. The brother attempts to capture the man he believes is responsible for the death of his sister. Dorian flees to his home, ultimately slashing the portrait that has kept him young for so long.

There are six impressions of the first state, three impressions of the second, four impressions of the third, and eight of the fourth state have been recorded. Signed in pencil in the lower left under the image. The image size is 7 15/16 x 14 7/8" (20.1 x 37.8 cm) and sheet size 11 9/16 x 18 3/8" (29.3 x 46.7 cm).
FRANK W. BENSON (1862-1951)
Frank Weston Benson, well known for his American impressionist paintings, also produced an incredible body of prints - etchings, drypoints, and a few lithographs. Born and raised on the North Shore of Massachusetts, Benson, a natural outdoorsman, grew up sailing, fishing, and hunting. From a young age, he was fascinated with drawing and birding – this keen interest continued throughout his life.
His first art instruction was with Otto Grundman at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and then in 1883 in Paris at the Academie Julian where he studied the rigorous ‘ecole des beaux arts’ approach to drawing and painting for two years.

Gerhard Richter was born in 1932 in Dresden, Germany. Throughout his career, Richter has negotiated the frontier between photography and painting, captivated by the way in which these two seemingly opposing practices speak to and challenge one another. From exuberant canvases rendered with a squeegee and acerbic color charts to paintings of photographic detail and close-ups of a single brushstroke, Richter moves effortlessly between the two mediums, reveling in the complexity of their relationship, while never asserting one above the other.
Richter’s life traces the defining moments of twentieth-century history and his work reverberates with the trauma of National Socialism and the Holocaust. In the wake of the Second World War, Richter trained in a Socialist Realist style sanctioned by East Germany’s Communist government. When he defected to West Germany in 1961, a month before the Berlin Wall was erected, Richter left his entire artistic oeuvre up to that point behind. From 1961 to 1964—alongside Blinky Palermo and Sigmar Polke—Richter studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he began to explore the material, conceptual, and historical implications of painting without ideological restraint.
Richter’s earliest paintings in Düsseldorf, stimulated by a fascination with current affairs and popular culture, responded to images from magazines and newspaper cuttings. Through the 1960s, Richter continued to address found and media images of subjects such as military jets, portraits, and aerial photographs. This hand signed work is from the Deluxe hand signed edition of only 100 - not to be confused from the unsigned edition of 2000. (None of the works from the edition of 2000 were ever signed by Oldenburg.) Hand signed editions are rarely if ever seen on the marketplace.
This original lithograph, splayed across two pages, is from the Deluxe edition of the legendary 1 Cent Life Portfolio, one of the most important and celebrated artistic collaborations of the 1960s. Chinese American artist and writer Walasse Ting, in collaboration with Sam Francis, assembled a group of the most significant Pop and Abstract Expressionist artists in America, including Pop Artist Claes Oldenburg, along with the European COBRA artists to create the definitive artistic portfolio, with text by Walasse Ting. The Deluxe edition, which features hand signed prints was published in a limited edition of only 100. This is one of them.
