Keith Haring (American, 1958–1990), a Neo-Pop and Graffiti artist, had a short but prolific career centered on a vision to unite “high art,” urban aesthetics, and public spaces using humorous, irreverent, and poignant works. Born in Pennsylvania, Haring attended the Ivy School of Art in Pittsburgh for two years, planning to become a commercial artist. He found this path unsatisfying, and instead chose to study at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he met fellow artists Jean Michel Basquiat and Kenny Scharf. Haring immersed himself in the culture of the city’s streets and clubs, and, in 1980, began covering the blank billboards on subway station walls with his Subway drawings in chalk.
Haring’s bold public art attracted the attention of several galleries, and, by the early 1980s, he was painting Neo-Pop works and large murals full time. In an effort to make his art widely accessible, Haring opened the Pop Shop in 1986 in downtown New York, selling commercial items adorned with his signature, cartoonish imagery. Haring combined graffiti, hip-hop, and urban aesthetics, frequently depicting animals, figures, commercial icons, sexual imagery, and childlike motifs in pieces that were both playful and concerned with social issues.
His work became increasingly confrontational following his 1987 diagnosis of AIDS. Haring resolved to work harder than ever in his remaining years, creating pieces with a fervent speed and devoting his art to social action in addition to his personal expression. In 1989, he established the Keith Haring Foundation, whose goal is to promote art programs and public spaces for children, and to raise awareness about AIDS

This series of abstract black and white Roth prints is full of movement, wildly diverse mark making, visceral, three-dimensional shapes and dynamic sketched lines. The artist worked on the same stone, erasing and adding elements with each step of the process to create a new print. Working on a lithography stone allowed him to scratch away areas with precision, revealing tightly hatched white lines that complement swaths of smokey gray. A Muse reflects Roth’s interest in permutations, decay, and a mathematical approach to making images. Each week the artist created a new variant: the series was originally planned as a set of 52.

Catalogue Reference: Roth 185-196
Dieter Roth was a printmaker from childhood: his first etching at the age of 16 was scratched into a soda can, and despite the failure of the can to print anything but a shadow of ink, he continued his study and by 20 was a serious apprentice in lithography to a well-known commercial artist, Eugen Jordi. Later he would continue to print and publish much of his own work. From the 1960s onward, his collaborations with Petersburg Press brought him international recognition and produced some of his most celebrated work: Six Piccadillies (1970), and Containers (1972).
Interested in chance and spontaneity, Roth was drawn to make prints using unorthodox means: according to mathematical principles, using equations, or by randomly rearranging blocks before they were run through the press. The artist often printed plates repeatedly in different colors, producing many variations from just a few images. He used the printing press and materials to interrogate the creative process rather than just as tools to achieve an edition of identical prints: for example, overprinting or under-inking, or running objects through the press (in 1968, a box of chocolates). Roth was not just interested in the chance of making pictures but the unpredictability of decay: allowing the grease from slices of meat to slowly contaminate paper, immersing a print in vegetable juice, clamping metal to paper to produce rust, and pouring chocolate over a finished work.

About Raymond Pettibon (Americanb. 1957)
Raymond Pettibon is a contemporary American artist known for his stylized ink drawings combining images and text. His inventive narratives blend historical content with consumer culture to yield incisive critiques of contemporary society. “I was making my work as transparent as possible, without equivocations, without calling attention to itself, without apology,” he explained. “There's a lot of conventions in the art world that are not to be transgressed, but my economy of means doesn't abide by those strictures.” Born Raymond Ginn on June 16, 1957 in Tucson, AZ, the artist is self-taught, but cites drawings by William Blake, Edward Hopper, Francisco Goya, and John Sloan as instructive to his practice. Deriving inspiration from comics, cartoons, and other pop culture iconography, Pettibon began designing album covers and ephemera for his brother’s band Black Flag in the mid-1970s. This extremely rare and historic invitation/exhibition poster was designed by Duchamp on the occasion of a group exhibition at New York's Cordier & Ekstrom Gallery for the Marcel Duchamp Fund of the Americas Chess Foundation in 1966. Duchamp used the RSVP cards he sent to various artists as a design for this invitation. Many of these RSVP cards had the artist's autographs, and a few, like the one from Alexander Calder, included personal notes to Duchamp. Some of the more famous of the 36 artists featured in print who participated by donating works to this fundraiser include: Jasper Johns, Karl Gerstner, David Hare, Salvador Dali, Enrico Donati, Roberto Matta, Isamu Noguchi, Alexander Calder, Dorothea Tanning, Jean Tinguely, Niki De St. Phalle, George Segal, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Meret Oppenheim, Alfonso Ossorio, Robert Motherwell, Claes Oldenburg, Man Ray, Joan Miro, Rene Magritte, Richard Lindner, Roy Lichtenstein, Arman, Enrico Baj, Hans Bellmer, Victor Brauner, Alexander Liberman, William Copley, Cleve Gray and several others. BILLY NAME (Photographer)
William George Linich (February 22, 1940 – July 18, 2016), known professionally as Billy Name, was an American photographer, filmmaker, and lighting designer. He was the archivist of The Factory from 1964 to 1970. His brief romance and subsequent friendship with Andy Warhol led to substantial collaboration on Warhol's work, including his films, paintings, and sculptures. Linich became Billy Name among the clique known as the Warhol superstars. He was responsible for "silverizing" Warhol's New York studio, the Factory, where he lived until 1970. His photographs of the scene at the Factory and of Warhol are important documents of the pop art era
VIVA
Janet Susan Mary Hoffmann (born August 23, 1938), known professionally as Viva, is an American actress, writer and former Warhol superstar. She was given the name Viva by Andy Warhol before the release of her first film but later used her married last name (Auder). She appeared in several of Warhol's films and was a frequent guest at the Factory. Viva was on the phone with Andy Warhol when he was shot by Valerie Solanas in 1968
