For ten years I lived in Minnesota and had a studio in Northeast Minneapolis, which I loved. When I moved to the city, I began to paint compositions of abstracted crowds of people as imagined from above. Can you envision this painting as a large crowd of people? You can hang this either horizontally or vertically. A little impressionistic in expression, this painting also reminds me of a garden of happy flowers.

Artist Biography:
Farida Hughes’ lively and intriguing abstract paintings take their inspiration from the gathering and dispersing of crowds, group relationships, and shared histories and stories of people. She developed her abstract mixed media style, and methods of mixing oil paint with resin, after many years of painting with oil paint and experimenting with oil painting mediums. Hughes studied Studio Art and English at Fordham University in New York and received an MFA in Painting from the University of Chicago. Her work is exhibited widely in galleries and art centers and collected nationally. She is currently represented by Walker Fine Art...

This work features a chaotic yet harmonious blend of colors and lines. "Veins of Satirical Sad" is a captivating imagery of abstract expressionism that vitalized a landscape with its raw, unbridled and dynamic integration. The canvas is punctuated by bold area of bluish-purple. A series of fluid, semi-swirling-white dotted lines that overlap and flow like white veins through the painting, zooming a hint of vague and insubstantial, which is perhaps reflected in the wielding brushstrokes and its with facility and unexpected combinations, conveying a sense of both stoic and resilience. The sweeping brushstrokes and jagged lines hereby convey a sense of tension and conflict, as if the canvas itself is struggling for balance. And yet, there is an allusive perception of beauty and gracefulness rooted deep into its composition, which tones for a hope of change in the midst of darkness. It is a thought-provoking and expressively emotional mind of art in which the core aesthetics of its new details and technical textures will have to be revealed upon individual’s different personal perspective.
