In her work, Luján Candria addresses the topic of memory. Circles #8
By Steve Joester
Located in New York, NY
Abstract art. Strong colors. Red. Black. White. Circle motif. About the Artist: Steve Joester is a British-born Rock & Roll photographer and mixed media artist, currently living and working in New York City.
Joester, a leading Rock & Roll photographer in the 70's and 80's, had his iconic images of the greatest rock performers appear on album sleeves, posters, exhibitions and magazines worldwide. Joester made his mark shooting icons such as Mick Jagger, Bob Marley, Neil Young, Sting, and also documented Andy Warhol on film with Rob Halford of Judas Priest backstage at the Palladium in April, 1979. In an explosive interpretation of the rock icons that left their indelible mark on our generation, Joester's unique mixed media works transcend his photography. Using an unconventional mixture of materials on his canvases, he echoes the raw energy of Rock & Roll with his own Interpretation of the emotion and power of the live performances. Joester was the first mixed media artist to be represented by the Morrison Hotel Gallery, and his work is included in collections internationally. COLLECTED BY JOHN VARVATOS RALPH LAUREN E. Abstract Painting. Vibrant Colors. Movement. Acrylic on Canvas. About the Artist: "Growing up in England during the 80s, the influence and love of American sub cultures through TV, and being surrounded by large non-spaces of US air bases around East Anglia, gave me a slightly odd and romantic view of America. I finished the Masters Degree bronze-casting course at the Royal College of Art in 1999 and have pursued my passion for Art ever since. I have built up a body of work that follows the theme of a journey into abstraction, inspired by Robert Smithson, Donald Judd, Fiona Banner, Cornelia...

ABOUT THE ARTIST Marco studied fine art at Pratt Institute and the Art Students League in New York. New York Times photography critic Gene Thornton called Marco “a Minimalist, whose images are sensual, whimsical, often surreal, always strong, and deceptively simple.” “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Phil Marco on a number of my films. Phil is a man of extraordinary talents. It seems that his passion is to take an everyday object or event, and show it in an entirely new and exciting way.” Martin Scorsese. Phil’s work is represented in MOMA, The Museum of the Moving Image, and The George Eastman Museum of Photography. His first photographs were studies for his paintings, before he launched a career in print advertising. He eventually became a Director / DP for film and television for a vast base of national and international clients with his wife Patricia as Partner and Producer. In the 1980’s and 90’s Phil was the go to person for Special Effects in Television and Cinema, also best known for his graphic conceptual still lives, and his consummate mastery of lighting, and design. He’s won many awards for his work, including numerous Cannes Lions, Cleo’s, a Grammy for his print work on the legendary “Tommy the Who...

Never Trump
By Laura Benjamin
Located in New York, NY
Original. Part of Candy Wrapper Collage series in Pop Art style. Natural wood frame. Homage to Trump. About the Artist: Benjamin received her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the American University in Washington D.C. and her Master’s Degree in Art Education from New York University. In addition she received an Associate’s Degree in Textile Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology and studied at The Art Student’s League, The Parson’s School of Design and The New School. Benjamin taught art for 34 years. While on sabbatical from teaching she studied textile design. For the next 15 years she continued to teach, as well as freelance as a textile designer in both home furnishings and the apparel markets. In the mid 90’s her focus turned towards computer graphics, and as an art educator, she incorporated this into her curriculum. She was awarded for a “successful practice in crossing the digital divide through art and technology” by the United States Department of Education. Her early works were oils and acrylics. During the late 60’s her interest was in pure abstraction. Pop Art and the human figure began to interest her in the early 70’s. Gradually, Benjamin was drawn to experimenting with mixed media. In the 80’s there was the influence of a career in textile design that moved her towards a more decorative style. In the 90’s, she became involved in the teaching of computer graphics. This was to have a profound influence in aiding and developing a more recent “POP” style. She began to incorporate into her paintings, torn pieces of digital printouts of her subjects. “The part of me that is the “digital artist” became very inspired by the use of the computer as a tool with which I could manipulate my subject and its color energy. The “fine artist” in me was then able to incorporate these concepts into a new image on my canvas. Having always had an interest in mixed media, my current work is now a combination of both POP and Collage. Since 2008 I have been creating a body of work dubbed “Candy Wrapper Collage”. A juried show’s theme, “gluttony”, challenged me to ultimately explore my POP figures through a new medium….candy wrappers! Razor blades are my new paintbrushes and candy wrappers are my new paints. Utilizing torn, cut and expired candy wrappers and their packaging, I render my subjects in diverse and colorful forms. I create representational images of celebrities and pop-culture objects...
