Raymond Pettibon 1993-2006 (a collection of 6 announcements)
By Raymond Pettibon
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Raymond Pettibon 1993-2006: A curated set of 6 vintage Raymond Pettibon illustrated announcement cards. Medium: 6 offset printed announcement cards. 1993-2006. Dimensions ranging from: 4.125 x 5.375 inches to 8.75 x 5.5 inches. Condition: Each in good to very good overall vintage condition. Each unsigned from an edition of unknown. Published on the occasion of the following Pettibon exhibitions: - Ikon LTD./Kay Richards, 1999 - Feature 1993 - Macba 2002 - Regen Projects 2006 - Santa Monica: Museum of Modern Art 2001 - David Zwirner 1997 Further background on announcement cards: "The only way you could let people know a show was happening was through an announcement or a poster. The art world was also much smaller at the time, so if you mailed out 200 invites, you were reaching a good core of the art world." (Rosen). Raymond Pettibon is a contemporary American artist known for his stylized ink drawings combining images and text. His inventive narratives blend historical content with consumer culture to yield incisive critiques of contemporary society. “I was making my work as transparent as possible, without equivocations, without calling attention to itself, without apology,” he explained. “There's a lot of conventions in the art world that are not to be transgressed, but my economy of means doesn't abide by those strictures.” Born Raymond Ginn on June 16, 1957 in Tucson, AZ, the artist is self-taught, but cites drawings by William Blake, Edward Hopper, Francisco Goya, and John Sloan as instructive to his practice. Deriving inspiration from comics, cartoons, and other pop culture iconography, Pettibon began designing album covers and ephemera for his brother’s band Black Flag in the mid-1970s. He went on to produce cover art for Sonic Youth, the Minutemen, and the Foo Fighters. In 2017, the artist was the subject of the major retrospective “Raymond Pettibon: A Pen of All Work,” held at the New Museum in New York, where he currently lives and works. Today, his works can be found in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Gallery in London, among others. Alexander Liberman book, hand signed by both Alexander Liberman and Barbara Rose
By Alexander Liberman
Located in New York, NY
Alexander Liberman, hand signed and inscribed by both Alexander Liberman and Barbara Rose, and accompanied by a separate hand signed note, 1981 Hardback monograph (hand signed and inscribed by Alexander Liberman as well as art historian Barbara Rose), plus accompanied by a separate handwritten card signed by Liberman in the original envelope Warmly signed and inscribed on the monograph and card by Alexander Liberman and hand signed by Barbara Rose on the first front end page 13 1/4 × 12 1/4 × 1 3/4 inches A unique and memorable gift for any collector or fan of the sculptor Alexander Liberman! This lavishly illustrated hardback monograph with dust jacket is warmly signed and inscribed on the first front end page by both Alexander Liberman and the author, art historian, Barbara Rose, and it is accompanied by a separate handwritten card, signed by Alexander Liberman and held in the original envelope. (see photos). The book and card was inscribed to Jack Haber, the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Gentlemen's Quarterly (GQ) from 1969 to 1983. GQ was owned by Conde Nast, and Alexander Liberman, who worked for Conde Nast for 32 years, was the Editorial Director from 1962-1983. Sadly, Jack Haber would die in 1984 at the age of 45 - one of the first casualties of the AIDS crisis, which was devastating to the art and publishing industries. Inscription on the monograph reads: To Jack Haber with warm friendship Alexander Liberman Inscription on the card reads: Dear Jack [Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year] with warm friendship Alex Book information: Publisher: Abbeville Press, 1981. Hardcover. Bound in publisher's original white cloth with spine and front cover stamped in black. Full color illustrations throughout, including several color foldouts. 392 pages. About Alexander Liberman: Considered a revolutionary Minimalist artist, Alexander Liberman produced works that predated the movement by more than a decade. Liberman, not wanting to limit himself to any one form of expression, worked to produce radically minimalist paintings and sculpture in order to illuminate his beliefs about celestial motion, the movement of the eye, as well as human sexuality. The artist’s fascination with American industrialization and modernization ultimately resulted in his widely known red steel sculptures and geometric paintings, which seem to decompose the turbulence of the time period. Alexander Liberman was born in 1912 in Kiev, Russia. He studied first in London and then in Paris. He took courses in philosophy and mathematics at the Sorbonne and architecture at L’École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Liberman has had numerous solo exhibitions at museums such as the Jewish Museum, New York (1966); Storm King Art Center, Mountainville, NY (1970); and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (1970). His sculpture and paintings are included in the museum collections of the Art Institute, Chicago; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; the Tate Gallery, London and many others. Additionally his public sculpture can be seen in over 40 cities around the world including Honolulu, Los Angeles, Miami, New Haven, New York, Oklahoma City and Philadelphia. Alexander Liberman died in November of 1999 at the age of 87. - Courtesy of Mitchell-Innes & Nass About Barbara Rose: Barbara Ellen Rose (June 11, 1936 – December 25, 2020) was an American art historian, art critic, curator and college professor. Rose's criticism focused on 20th-century American art, particularly minimalism and abstract expressionism, as well as Spanish art. "ABC Art...

Abstract Picture (Limited edition print; authorized promotional reproduction)
By Gerhard Richter
Located in New York, NY
Gerhard Richter Untitled Abstract Picture, 2002 Offset lithograph on GardaMatt Art 250 GSM paper Not signed, edition of 3433 12 1/2 × 16 3.5 inches Unframed Printed on GardaMatt Art 250 GSM paper, this beautiful and colorful piece was part of a portfolio of loose plate reproductions for Gerhard Richter's Abstraktes works. Released during his exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Art (Abstract Pictures) and the Museum of Modern Art (Gerhard Richter, 40 Years of Painting). It depicts Richters 1999 Oil on Aluminum abstract picture) More about Gerhard Richter: Gerhard Richter was born in 1932 in Dresden, Germany. Throughout his career, Richter has negotiated the frontier between photography and painting, captivated by the way in which these two seemingly opposing practices speak to and challenge one another. From exuberant canvases rendered with a squeegee and acerbic color charts to paintings of photographic detail and close-ups of a single brushstroke, Richter moves effortlessly between the two mediums, reveling in the complexity of their relationship, while never asserting one above the other. Richter’s life traces the defining moments of twentieth-century history and his work reverberates with the trauma of National Socialism and the Holocaust. In the wake of the Second World War, Richter trained in a Socialist Realist style sanctioned by East Germany’s Communist government. When he defected to West Germany in 1961, a month before the Berlin Wall was erected, Richter left his entire artistic oeuvre up to that point behind. From 1961 to 1964—alongside Blinky Palermo and Sigmar Polke—Richter studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he began to explore the material, conceptual, and historical implications of painting without ideological restraint. Richter’s earliest paintings in Düsseldorf, stimulated by a fascination with current affairs and popular culture, responded to images from magazines and newspaper cuttings. Through the 1960s, Richter continued to address found and media images of subjects such as military jets, portraits, and aerial photographs. Notably, he reimagined family pictures he had smuggled from East Germany that included his smiling uncle Rudi, dressed in a Nazi uniform...
