Mid Century Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Murphy Miller for Plycraft c 1950’s
By Plycraft, Murphy Miller Inc.
Located in New York, NY
Classic Mid Century lounge chair and ottoman designed by Murphy Miller for Plycraft, circa 1950’s. The swivel and tilt chair features bent plywood arms which are attached to the tufted vinyl upholstered seat and backrest. The not often seen ottoman features a fully tufted surface which is supported by the tapering tubular metal four leg base. This example is in good, original condition showing some signs of age and use, specifics to follow. The vinyl upholstery on the seat cushion of the chair has a small flaw, and the upholstery at the top of the side of the back shows minor scuffs. The chair is fully functional and usable as is, or you can have it reupholstered if you prefer a more polished look. In the style of the Mulhauser , and Eames plywood lounge chairs...

Rare Gilbert Rohde Easy Chair Model #3950, ca. 1933
By Herman Miller, Gilbert Rohde
Located in Phoenix, AZ
This Easy Chair, model #3950, designed by the influential Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller circa 1933, is a rare and remarkable example of early American modernist furniture. Featuring beech wood legs and original grey upholstery, this chair embodies the forward-thinking design principles that Rohde brought to Herman Miller during a pivotal period in the company’s history. The chair is being sold as-is, showcasing the patina and character that only decades of history can provide. Gilbert Rohde and Herman Miller: A Design Legacy Gilbert Rohde (1894–1944) was a visionary designer who played a crucial role in transitioning American furniture design from the ornate styles of the past to the streamlined, functional aesthetic of modernism. He joined Herman Miller in 1931, at a time when the company was struggling financially. Rohde’s innovative designs, which emphasized simplicity, functionality, and the use of new materials, helped reposition Herman Miller as a leader in modern design. Rohde's collaboration with Herman Miller marked a significant turning point in the company’s history. His designs were among the first to embrace modernist principles in America, focusing on clean lines, geometric forms, and the elimination of unnecessary ornamentation. Rohde's influence on Herman Miller laid the groundwork for the company’s future success, paving the way for later collaborations with iconic designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, and George Nelson. Interior Design Usage This Easy Chair, with its elegant beech wood legs and understated grey upholstery, is a versatile piece that can enhance a variety of interior settings. Its timeless design makes it suitable for both vintage and contemporary spaces. Whether placed in a living room, study, or bedroom, the chair offers a comfortable seating option while also serving as a statement piece that reflects the pioneering spirit of American modernism. Given its historical significance and design pedigree, this chair is not just a piece of furniture—it is a collector’s item, representing a key moment in the evolution of American design. Whether you’re an avid collector of modernist furniture or simply appreciate the beauty of well-crafted, functional design, this Gilbert Rohde Easy Chair...
