Entrelaçados Wall Shelf in Imbuia Wood
By Maria Fernanda Paes de Barros
Located in Jundiaí, SP
The Entrelaçados intertwined wall shelf with door is made of Brazilian imbuia hardwood. The interlacing is made of exclusive organic cotton threads, which grow in different natural colors, cultivated by family farmers, in the state of Paraiba, Brazil.
The available organic cotton colors may vary, as its production is limited and depends on climate conditions. At the time of purchase, please consult which options are available. In view of such characteristics, the number of pieces are limited and all of them are numbered.
The door opening direction of this piece is up, but it can be made opening down if needed.
The designer Maria Fernanda Paes de Barros, creator of Yankatu, traveled to Paraiba to get a closer look at the Embrapa's research that managed to make the colored cotton yarn have the strength and length needed for its use in spinning and weaving.
Inspired by the Brazilian richness in colors, flowers, sounds, races, flavors and dreams Maria Fernanda Paes de Barros created the Intertwined collection as a way of honoring Brazil's mixture of cultures, races, habits and emotions.
As all the pieces produced by Yankatu, is accompanied by its soul, a certificate of authenticity in the form of a small book that tells about the inspiration that gave birth to it and leaves blank pages so that its story can continue to be told by those who acquire it, turning it into something more, which does not change with fashion, which does not go by with time. To the contrary, it will move on from a generation to another, from hand to hand, each time with more stories to tell, each time incorporating the lives shared by it.
The pictures show different combinations possibilities intertwining the Entrelaçados Intertwined cubes and niches.
The price shown is for one wall niche...

The wood comes from nature, each one is unique, with its veins, knots and tones. Because it is a natural material it suffers with the climate change, so cracks an shifts in color may emerge over time. The wood can also warp sometimes due to a large variation in relative humidity of the air. This aren’t defects on the contrary, all of this is considered normal.

"Contas" Round Swivel Bookcase in Cabreuva Hardwood
By Maria Fernanda Paes de Barros
Located in Jundiaí, SP
All the levels of this round bookcase, made of cabreuva hardwood, are permeated by buriti palms yarns with ceramic beads, creating different compositions depending on the angle we look at. All the soft colored shades of the ceramic come from the clay itself, stones and plants of the Jequitinhonha Valley, a Brazilian region known by its traditional craftwork.
The designer Maria Fernanda Paes de Barros spent some time there researching their art and the way they live. The inspiration to design this bookcase came from the curtains used to decorate their houses and also by the poetry written by Deuzani Gomes dos Santos, the artisan who received her in her home.
This bookcase, and all the pieces produced by Yankatu are numbered and accompanied by its soul, a small book that tells about the inspiration that gave birth to it and leaves blank pages so that its story can continue to be told by those who acquire it, turning it into something more, which does not change with fashion, which does not go by with time.
