Provenance: Without a will and a family that had little interest in his art, nearly all of his possessions and close to 100 paintings were turned over to SF’s Conservators Office. His friend, Albert Richard Lasker, purchased all of Peter’s possessions (including the art) and has taken care of them until this day, always sensing there was something remarkable about the collection. Wanting Peter’s work to finally be seen, Richard came to Lost Art Salon with Peter’s story after reading about the new gallery in a July, 2005 issue of the SF Chronicle. Claire Weist (American, 1930-2014) was an artist known primarily for her watercolor compositions. She won several awards throughout her career, including the jury award for graphics from the Illinois Watercolor Society. Weist was originally from the Boston area and studied at the Massachusetts College of Art and then Harvard. After spending time teaching art and as an illustrator, Weist moved to Crete, Illinois and opened her own studio, where she spent the remainder of her professional career.

Richard "Don" Klopfer (1920-2009) attended the National Art School in Washington D.C. and the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California. Klopfer was a life-long, passionate visual artist who worked in a variety of mediums, including oil paints, wood and bronze. His gallery "The Flair" was on Pico Blvd West Los Angeles from 1954 to 1980 was a gathering place for artists, friends and collectors.
He was recognized for the use of brilliant color in his paintings and for leaving drawings everywhere he went. Klopfer's painting "My Old House" is on permanent exhibition at San Luis Obispo Museum of Art (SLOMA). He has also exhibited at The Los Angeles County Art Museum, Esther Robles Gallery, Third Street Gallery, Westwood Art Association, Barnsdale Park, and Robert Pyle Gallery.
