Neon hued dress suit by Gianni Versace Couture which featured in the Spring 1996 ready-to-wear collection, Look number 50. Both the jacket and the dress are made using a beautifully soft silk, in a striking abstract design against a yellow background. The design features brushstroke-like patterns in hot pink, orange, green, white and turquoise, and really epitomises the playful takes on colour which were so favoured by Versace during this period of his career. The dress is cut in a classic mini fit and flare shape - it has a double layered bodice and structured cups for extra support, with gathered detail where the straps meet. This is a late 1970s or early 1980s ensemble by Caroline Charles, a well-known designer on the London circuit who has made beautiful formal wear and fine quality day clothes since the 1960s. This cotton suit is made up of a triple tiered skirt, belt and blouse and reminds of the 'peasant chic' look that Yves Saint Laurent was designing in the late 70s as part of his Ballet Russes collection. The blouse is high-necked with neat puff shoulders and tapered, gathered cuffs. The blouse is not lined whilst the skirt is fully lined in black cotton. The original wide fabric belt is retained, and we would suggest the blouse could be tucked into the skirt but also be fastened over the top and cinched in with the fabric belt. In very good vintage condition overall; the blouse appears to have been worn more than the skirt, which together with the belt, are in excellent condition. The skirt and blouse are labelled Caroline Charles and marked UK size 10. This is best suited in modern sizing to UK size 6-8, US size 2-4 on account of the waist measurements for the skirt, although the top could be worn by a size bigger. Notes on Designer: Caroline Charles began her design career after a couture appenticeship and a stint at Mary Quant. She was a founding designer at London Fashion Week and during the swinging 60s, her collections were worn by Lulu, Marianne Faithful and Cilla Black...

This early 1990s Christian Dior navy and white polka-dot three piece suit is comprised of a skirt, jacket and sleeveless top. The ensemble would have been designed by Gianfranco Ferre during his eight year tenure as Creative Director of the House. The jacket is pristinely tailored from a smooth navy wool and lined with a playful white-on-navy polka-dot silk. It has a single-breasted cut which fastens with five oval gold-tone buttons engraved with the “CD” logo. The silhouette is elegant, showcasing a slight nipped-in waist and elongated length with three flap pockets to the front. The sleeves are split and trimmed internally with ribbed white ribbed cotton, as are the inside of the lapels. The skirt is cut to a knee-length pencil silhouette. It is lined in coordinating polka-dot silk and fastens at the back with a hook-and-eye clasp and hidden tonal zip. The inside of the waistband is lined in ribbed white cotton. The final piece in this ensemble is a sleeveless blouse in navy and white polka-dot silk - to match the lining of the jacket and skirt. The top has a relaxed, straight shape and fastens at the back of the neck with a hidden tonal zip and hook-and-eye clasp. The label reads “Christian Dior Boutique Paris” and is numbered.
