Hybrid 12 - Three Dimensional Colorful Enamel Bronze Abstract Wall Sculpture
By Jennyfer Stratman
Located in Los Angeles, CA
There is a metaphorical interplay between the natural imagery international artist, Jennyfer Stratman, uses and its multiple meanings. While the human figure features strongly, it is the essence of the body that is important to her, not the representation. Particularly, the artist imagines trees and branches as a figurative link between the natural environment and our physical presence. The implied internal landscape of the body can also be reflected in how our surroundings from birth affect our sense of identity. By exploring landscapes of the body and mind, she also hopes to comment on the larger picture of our impact on the natural world. This bronze and enameled sculpture is meant to be installed as a wall hanging that sits 2 inches away from the wall. As displayed, this sculpture measures 9 inches high and 20 inches wide. It is signed by Stratman on the front and back. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and International shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Stratman grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1992 she commenced her studies at Arizona State University majoring in visual arts and art education. Stratman entered academia as a ceramicist. With each passing semester, the scale of her creations expanded and the material limitations of working with clay ultimately led her to the university foundry. This opened a door into another world of creative possibilities, profoundly changing her artistic direction. She replaced fired clay with larger-scale bronze, steel, and mixed media sculptures yet retained a delicacy, intimacy, and intricacy imbued from the ceramic process. Today she is a full-time established artist with studios operating in Phoenix, Arizona and Melbourne, Australia. Her time is divided between the two countries with each location informing and influencing the creative process. She has exhibited in 31 solo exhibitions and over 100 group exhibitions nationally and internationally. Her indoor and outdoor sculptures are held in public and private collections in countries including the United States, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Israel, England, and Europe. Artplex Gallery has been representing and exhibiting Jennyfer Stratman's original artworks in Los Angeles since 2021, presenting her impressive works to an international collector base around the globe. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. The gallery exhibits a well-curated selection of original artworks beyond the ordinary from established and emerging international artists with diverse backgrounds at high standards. Important additional inspiration came from her family and from the family of a childhood friend, where Kristen found herself surrounded by the work of Paul Manship, her friend’s grandfather and one of America’s greatest sculptors. With increased focus on her art, along with winning numerous awards throughout high school, Newell eagerly enrolled in the arts program at University of Vermont and augmented her studies with a valuable year at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Upon graduation, Newell moved back to Cleveland to begin her art career and started participating in group shows, including River Gallery and the Ohio State...

"Untitled" 1963 pre-Star Wars Space Ship Cast Bronze Signed & Dated
By Julius Schmidt
Located in Detroit, MI
SALE ONE WEEK ONLY This Pre-Star Wars Space Ship captures the magic, power and volume of unidentified objects that pass through our solar system and within viewing site of spaceship Earth. Titled "Untitled" this piece has the monumental quality and style of a spaceship that has been circling the universe forever. Constructed in 1963, prior to film industry creatives scaring viewers with visions of unimaginable spacecraft come to destroy earth, Julius Schmidt's imagination was unstoppable with his numerous and unique cast bronze sculptures. This extraordinary piece is a heart stopping example of what a genius creative can produce. It was exhibited in March 9 - 31, 1963 at the Otto Gerson Gallery, New York, NY. A Catalog of the show accompanies this piece. Julius Schmidt is an American sculptor who earned his B.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1953 and for the next two years studied sculpture under Ossip Zadkine in Paris and at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. He returned to Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, in 1955 for his M.F.A. in sculpture. Cranbrook was designed by architect and faculty member, Eliel Saarinen who collaborated with Charles and Ray Eames on chair and furniture design. Numerous creative artists who are alumni of Cranbrook include: Harry Bertoia, Florence Knoll, Jack Lenor Larsen, Donald Lipski, Duane Hanson, Nick Cave, Hani Rashid, George Nelson, Urban Jupena (Nationally recognized fiber artist), Artis Lane (the first African-American artist to have her sculpture, "Sojourner Truth," commissioned for the Emancipation Hall in the Capital Visitor Center in Washington DC), Cory Puhlman (televised Pastry Chef extraordinaire), Thom O’Connor (Lithographs), Paul Evans (Brutalist-inspired sculpted metal furnishings), Eugene Caples (small bronze images/abstract), Morris Brose (bronze sculptures), Herb Babcock...

The Test, Assembled Kinetic Modernist Sculpture Puzzle Construction
By William King (b.1925)
Located in Surfside, FL
"The Test," 1970 Aluminum sculpture in 5 parts. Artist's cipher and AP stamped into male figure, front, 20 5/16" x 12 1/2" x 6 5/7" (approx.) American sculptor King is most noted for his long-limbed figurative public art sculptures depicting people engaged in everyday activities such as reading or conversing. He created his busts and figures in a variety of materials, including clay, wood, metal, and textiles. William Dickey King was born in Jacksonville, Florida. As a boy, William made model airplanes and helped his father and older brother build furniture and boats. He came to New York, where he attended the Cooper Union and began selling his early sculptures even before he graduated. He later studied with the sculptor Milton Hebald and traveled to Italy on a Fulbright grant. Mr. King worked in clay, wood, bronze, vinyl, burlap and aluminum. He worked both big and small, from busts and toylike figures to large public art pieces depicting familiar human poses — a seated, cross-legged man reading; a Western couple (he in a cowboy hat, she in a long dress) holding hands; a tall man reaching down to tug along a recalcitrant little boy; a crowd of robotic-looking men walking in lock step. Mr. King’s work often reflected the times, taking on fashions and occasional politics. In the 1960s and 1970s, his work featuring African-American figures (including the activist Angela Davis, with hands cuffed behind her back) evoked his interest in civil rights. But for all its variation, what unified his work was a wry observer’s arched eyebrow, the pointed humor and witty rue of a fatalist. His figurative sculptures, often with long, spidery legs and an outlandishly skewed ratio of torso to appendages, use gestures and posture to suggest attitude and illustrate his own amusement with the unwieldiness of human physical equipment. His subjects included tennis players and gymnasts, dancers and musicians, and he managed to show appreciation of their physical gifts and comic delight at their contortions and costumery. His suit-wearing businessmen often appeared haughty or pompous; his other men could seem timid or perplexed or awkward. Oddly, or perhaps tellingly, he tended to depict women more reverentially, though in his portrayals of couples the fragility and tender comedy inherent in couplehood settled equally on both partners. His first solo exhibit took place in 1954 at the Alan Gallery in New York City. King was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2003, and in 2007 the International Sculpture Center honored him with the Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award. Mr. King’s work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Hirshorn Museum at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, among other places, and he had dozens of solo gallery shows in New York and elsewhere. Reviews of his exhibitions frequently began with the caveat that even though the work was funny, it was also serious, displaying superior technical skills, imaginative vision and the bolstering weight of a range of influences, from the ancient Etruscans to American folk art to 20th-century artists including Giacometti, Calder and Elie Nadelman. The New York Times critic Holland Cotter once described Mr. King’s sculpture as “comical-tragical-maniacal,” and “like Giacomettis conceived by John Cheever.”

Dan Dailey : Daum Figurative Glass Sculpture "Les Danseurs (The Dancers)"
By Daum
Located in Detroit, MI
"Les Danseurs" (French for "The Dancers") is a 1979 collaboration between Daum and artist Dan Dailey. This glass figurative sculpture of two dancers, a man and a woman coated in an icy blue palate, was created with glass paste blown in a light blue mold and etched on the external surface. This work is numbered 57 from an edition of 200, signed on the sculpture in diamond-point with "D Dailey" and "DAUM FRANCE" and is included with a certificate of authenticity signed and numbered by Daum and Dan Dailey. Dan Dailey is an American glass artist who was born in Philadelphia in 1947. He emerged from the Studio Glass movement that was founded by Harvey Lilleton and collaborated with Crisallerie Daum for more than twenty years. His education includes studying under Roland Jahn and Harvey Lilleton at the Philadelphia College of Art in the 1960s and a teaching fellowship at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1970 where he also became Dale Chihuly's first graduate student He is professor emeritus at the Massachusetts College of Art where he founded their glass program. His work has been exhibited and collected all over the world, spanning over a hundred exhibitions and collections. The studio of Daum is a name that precedes itself. The only crystal manufacturer employing the glass paste process for art glass, the studio was founded in 1878 by the Daum family in Nancy, France. The studio has become synonymous with the Art Nouveau period but continues to produce high end and high quality decorative art to this very day. Artists that have worked with Daum include Charles Schneider, Arman, Hilton McConnico, Philippe Starck, Salvador Dali, Cyril Phan, Richard Texier, Emilio Robba...

The Guardian
By Maxine Kim Stussy 1
Located in West Hollywood, CA
Maxine Kim Stussy was a prolific sculptor and painter from the late 1940’s to present. Maxine led an incredibly artistic life traveling the world with her husband at the time, artist Jan Stussy, who headed the art department at UCLA for several decades. Both artists were close associates of Stanton MacDonald Wright, known as one of the greatest American modernist artists, also known as the co creator of the synchronistic movement in the teens with Marcel Duchamp. Maxine was unrestricted by any singular medium; her sculptures took form in wood assemblage, concrete, bronze and unique nail assemblage. Large size seemed natural to her, and she often created figurative sculpture over 7 feet high. The gallery has represented the original sculpture of Maxine Kim Stussy for many years, and this is the first time we have presented any of her original works on 1st Dibs. “The Guardian...
